Hotels in Nice: be aware of starsAzur bay of France - an excellent choice for a great vacation in Europe. On no account should you miss the sea resorts of France. And of course pay a special attention to the pearl of Riviera - Nice. Here, in Nice and on the rest south-eastern coast of France, you'll find wonderful pebble beaches. And almost all of them are municipal. But, once in 4-5 years some of the beaches are actioned off. So you definately have a chance to acquire your own piece of Nice.
All hotels in Nice give you a 50% discount for private beaches (10 EUR). This cost usually includes a shower, a plank bed, an umbrella and a mattress. But, unfortunately, that is only a general approach. Before coming to Nice you should come to know some tips about local hotel service. One important thing concerning Nice hotels is the system of 'stars' - a kind of classification of hotels, which is complex enough. For example, it is better to forget about one-star hotels. Two-star hotels offer small rooms and an average service. Three-star hotels will provide you with rooms and service of a higher quality, besides, prices vary greatly depending on the quality of the service. But sometimes prices and quality are a mismatch . Two-star hotels offer a minimum number of rooms and minimum convenience. You will find a ceiling TV, a shower and a WC in your room. Do not count on a substantial breakfast. It is very comfortable for tourists (Hotel de Berne, Hotel Villa La Malouine etc.). Three-star hotels are located in central Nice. Here you won't be offered such an ascetic breakfast as in two-stars hotels. A cup of coffee/tea, a roll with jam and butter, some juice, cheese and a fruit salad are not that bad and won't leave you starving till diner. Four-star hotels have their own restaurants, bars and shops. You probably will find a bath and a hair drier in your room. Most of the four-star hotels in Nice also have a pool and a sauna. Breakfast in such hotels is a buffet with some hot dishes (Nice Riviera, Meridien Nice, Hotel Negresco, Radisson SAS, etc). Also you will find a special class of four-star hotels - four-star Luxe Palaces. Usually, they have the status of Nice's historical property and very often they're connected to celebrities' personal life . Such hotels offer you spacious apartments in refined French style. Perfect service and all conveniences are provided. Besides, almost all four-star hotels in Nice are located on Promenade des Anglais or somewhere nearby (Hotel Plaza Concorde, Hotel Westminster-Concorde, etc.). You should remember, that your check in Nice restaurants and hotels includes taxes and service charges. So you don't have to pay them separately. Also coast cafes and bars have a rather interesting system of payment: sometimes it is cheaper to order your meal to be served at the bar than at a table. In such cases you pay separately for "au comptoir" (a bar) and for "à salle" (a table in the restaurant hall), i.e. the sum you pay is divided in two parts. Take into consideration that a dinner at little tables standing in the open air will cost 20% more than inside the restaurant.
