Winchester - Central Kentucky's Antique Gem

The legendary pioneer founded Fort Boonesborough in 1775, and the city of Winchester commemorates the occasion annually during its Daniel Boone Pioneer Festival held during Labor Day weekend. Winchester is a city located in Clark County, Kentucky. The city of Winchester features a Victorian downtown (one of the last remaining in the United States), complete with antique shops and restaurants.

Downtown Winchester has a splendid blend of richly designed Victorian commercial buildings and pretty modern structures. Main Street, listed on the National Register of Historic Places, is one of the few intact late Nineteenth Century commercial districts in the Commonwealth of Kentucky. Winchester is one of the most beautiful and historical places in the state. It is also the home of the soft drink Ale-8-One. Winchester has produced notable historical figures including Homer Ledford and Daniel Boone; Yeremiah Bell, a Winchester native and former football player for George Rogers Clark, currently plays Safety for the Miami Dolphins in the NFL.

Winchester is the location of several industrial plants. Nearby coal and gas fields and fertile farmland also contribute to the economy. Henry Clay made his first and last Kentucky speeches in the town. The Forest Supervisor's office of the Daniel Boone National Forest is located in Winchester. Boat, fish, hike and hunt to your heart's content in this scenic national forest.

Red River Gorge Geological Area of Winchester has solitude in the wilderness that's hard to beat. Spend the day hiking the miles of trails or backpack thought the cliffy wilderness.
