You have read the articles in the magazines, seen glimpses in the ski and snowboard movies, heard all about it from your friends. Now it is your turn to experience the magic of Whistler. Get ready for the vacation of a lifetime!
Whistler is a friendly ski town located in British Columbia, Canada and is home to almost 10,000 residents. One of the many things that makes Whistler so special is two unbelievable mountains - Whistler and Blackcomb. Side by side, they represent over 8000 acres of skiable terrain, rising a mile above the valley of Whistler.
Whistler and Blackcomb Mountains offer unforgettable skiing, snowboarding, and unlimited winter and summer activities. Most of the mountains around Whistler are upside down. They look like right side up mountains, with broad bases rooted firmly in the valley floor and pointy peaks reaching skyward. But to a geologist, they are upside down. These mountains are composed of sedimentary rocks, which form as sediment collects in shallow seas or in inland basins. The majestic beauty of the mountains is awe inspiring to almost anyone.
Once you know how many people will be joining you on your ski vacations, you can search through the rental accommodations to determine which one best suits your needs. Most ski accommodations have an availability calendar online so you can see if it is available or already booked. The pursuit of virgin powder and the challenge of the mountains are what drives the backcountry skier. The qualitative equipment enables the skier to experience the freedom of the mountains with no lifts, no noise, no crowds.
This winter season more than ever, Whistler Blackcomb promises plenty of excitement. 1100 acres of new terrain to explore, a Superpipe to light up the night, world class events, a revitalized Creekside Village - there's a lot going on. To make sure you get the most out of your holiday, we've provided some handy facts. While you might not become an instant local, at least you won't be standing in the rental shop line-up on a powder morning!
Located in the Coastal Mountains of BC, Whistler is approximately 115 kilometres (72 miles) from Vancouver. There is little need for a car once in Whistler, so if you are flying into Vancouver, the best way to get here is by bus, limousine or charter plane. If you do decide to drive, book a rental car, grab a map, and head for the mountains.
