The Pros and Cons of Coach Day Trips

Added: 01/13/2006

When you try to find out what kind of travel to choose for your weekend, it is important to weigh all the possible pluses and minuses. You might ask, why? The answer is obvious: simply to make your weekend enjoyable, full of fun and interesting experience. On top of that, why to pay money and regret afterwards? The article below is aimed at helping those who want to take a coach day trip, but still hesitate.

For many people coach day trips are the optimum in both financial and time terms. However, sometimes it is very difficult to start for a bus travel due to the obvious drawbacks of travelling by bus. If you are still undecided whether coach day trips are really worth taking, here is the list of advantages and disadvantages of coach breaks. It will be natural to start with the positive features of bus travelling:

• You will be able to see the remotest corner of your destination because coach routes go almost everywhere
• Some cities are not reachable by train or plane, so coaches may be the only means of transport which is able to reach the destination you need
• A lot of key destinations, like national parks, lack nearby train service and buses again come as the only possible option
• You have a choice of departure times, the only thing you need is to decide on them with your tour operator
• The itinerary is also up to your preferences and it can even be changed during your coach day trips

The disadvantages of coach day trips are also significant:
• Not very comfortable seats and lack of leg room, which is not a good option for long periods of travel
• Difficult to sleep: despite the air conditioning system it can be stuffy which make it a hard task to fall asleep
• Coach travellers have very little room to move around
• Constant noise. If you are not very lucky, you will listen to the child crying all day long with small breaks for a meal
• The drivers behaviour on the highway can be inadequate
• In most of the cities bus stations are located quite far away from suitable accommodation without any other public transportation available.
• Food can also be a problem during coach day trips, in order to save time, the tour operators forget about their customers' need for gourmet food and provide them with short breaks by fast food restaurants or station cafes. That is why is important to find out beforehand where and when you are supposed to eat and to solve the problem, if it is possible, of course.

In spite of the fact that there are much more disadvantages than advantages, coach travelling remains one of the few means of transport which give you an opportunity to see as much as possible. The only competitor to coach travelling  is only a self-driving tour.

Usually the deciding factors on taking coach day trips are the possibility to see sights  close to, to be free to spontaneously change your itinerary, an opportunity to meet a lot of other tourists at a time who will keep you a good company for the whole trip or an opportunity to take as many friends with you as you can and considerably low prices.

If you now feel that the advantages overweight the disadvantages and discomforts, try to find a reliable tour operator who will provide you with the best service possible and of course choose the most interesting destination for you - everything en route will be able to turn your travel into disaster or to make it the sweetest of all you have ever had. Let the luck follow you everywhere!
