If you consider yourself a keen skier, you must have heard of Kitzbuhel, the most prominent ski resort in Austria. Located in Austrian Tyrol, the city has the traditional Austrian Tyrol atmosphere with small streets and painted houses. Due to the superb scenery, exclusive style and Austrian Tyrol charm, Kitzbuhel has remained the country's top ski resort for many years already, famous for its world-class restaurants, casinos and magnificent nightspots. It is also regarded as one of the first international resorts, attracting visitors from all over the world.
The main ski area is the 2000m Hahnenkamm, reached best by a gondola from the town's center. The second mountain of Kitzbuhel - the Kitzbuhel Horn can be easily reached by a regular ski bus. With dozens of small shops and Tyrolean village stores, Kitzbuhel is seen as a shopping paradise, which must be experienced by all means. Ski shops prevail, but there are also souvenir shops, jewelry stores and designer boutiques. Some of them offer discounts to the visitors carrying guest cards from the local hotels. The choice of restaurants is really extensive and their quality is excellent. The most spectacular of mountain restaurants is the Panorama Alm, which is attractive due to its impressive views. The Hotel Ramushof boasts a first-class restaurant, which is worth a visit.
A great number of nightclubs and bars will suit every budget and nationality. Famous for its lethal cocktails, the London Pub enjoys wide popularity with Brits. Three nightclubs can be found in the town center, including the Royal, Take 5 and Olympia. You'll try your luck on the tables of the Casino Kitzbuhel at the Hotel Goldener Grief.
The other major pastimes besides skiing include curling, ballooning, skating, hand-gliding, snowmobiling, billiards and hikes. New Year is the best time to take a skiing trip to Kitzbuhel with the great firework displays. Among the highlights of the winter period are New Year's Eve Party and the Christmas Market. Regarded as a famous spa center, the city has a number of public baths, offering such amenities as swimming, massage, sauna and steam bath. With its beautiful old churches, medieval houses and exclusive shops, Kitzbuhel is a favorite destination for many tourists. There are also plentiful short excursions to the Farmhouse Museum, Cable Car Museum, Ski Museum and Mining Museum.
Throughout its history, which can be traced back to the IX century, Kitzbuhel has remained the center of glamour and magnificence.
