Added: 06/25/2006

The history of each country is interesting and fascinating in itself. Battles and wars, intrigues and plots, troubles and victories in the books about the past ages make our hearts beat stronger. But, perhaps, the most interesting and admiring is the French history: the Royal courts and the Emperors, cardinals and ministers, the musketry and the Guards created it and made it bright and unique.

France has much evidence of its glorious past: novels and castles, monuments and ruins, pictures and sculptures - this all tells us the story of nobility and courage, which people like and respect in the French people.  Wherever you go in this country, you will surely see historical places and hear  hundreds of stories, because the population of the French provinces keeps a lot to tell.  Of course, the stories of monumental places are no less interesting, and if you visit the Meurthe-et-Moselle region you will make sure.

Situated in Lorraine province of the northeastern France, this is a place where some of the earliest human settlements were found.  They are referred to 800 B.C. Scientists think that people lived there, because it was a wonderful place for iron ore mining.  With the time passed the settlement became a small fortress and then a town where the famous nowadays Stanislas Leszczynski ruled.  He was an exiled king of Poland and the Duke of Lorraine from 1737 till 1766, when he died.

Stanislas was, perhaps, a good ruler, as nowadays children learn his life at schools and the largest and the most beautiful square in Nancy, the capital of the locality, bears his name.  This square was, as well, built by Stanislas to honor and glorify Loise XV of France, his son-in-law.  There was even a bronze statue of him at the centre of the square till the French Revolution, but hereafter the monument was changed to the statue of the Duke Stanislas himself.

This square is nowadays one of the biggest attractions in Nancy, and people who visit the city never miss it.  Besides, other attractions are situated around the square.  For example, the Fine Arts Museum is situated on its west side.  In Stanislas' time it was the College of Medicine.  The Grand Hotel and the Opera house occupy the north side, and the City Hall is the only building situated to the south from the square.

But though the main places of interest in Nancy are situated close to each other, there are some which will need transport to get there.  Besides, there are people who cannot do without a car in a strange locality.  If this is all about you you may use car hire Nancy services, which will willingly provide you with a vehicle to make your vacations more mobile and free.

If you chose the region of France to make a trip you should know that there are many interesting events in Nancy a year through.  Numerous festivals and exhibitions, opera and theatre performances and other entertainment facilities will be accessible for you in this hospitable city with cozy hotels, narrow streets and beautiful countrysides. This place is wonderful for those who like discovering new places and listening to new stories about the history of countries and nations.

Of course, it is not the place for endless activity, and thus, the youth may think it is dull; but it is not at all so.  There are comfortable bars and luxury restaurants in this city, which can make happy those people who want to have some fun during their vacations.  But in any case, even a simple walk along the streets of this city may fill your soul with positive emotions.  Is it not enough for good vacations?
