The smallest and most densely populated country in the region, El Salvador is everything you need to know about Central America. Its tropical nature is the quintessence of an average city-dweller's idea of exotica: lakes of astounding beauty surrounded by scenic valleys, rainforests abundant in tropical wildlife, and ruins of ancient towns telling stories about the life of Mayan and Aztec tribes that once inhabited this wonderful place.
Puerta del Diablo, or Devil's Gate, is a rock formation and, probably, the best place to witness one of the greatest attractions in El Salvador -- the panoramic view of tropical nature in El Salvador. It only takes ten minutes to climb the highest viewpoint and maybe six times longer to tear oneself away from this breathtaking view.
Another one of the unforgettable attractions in El Salvador is experience of feeling spaced out of the world in a fairy-tale forest. Montecristo Cloud Forest can be very much like that, with tropical trees growing up to 30 m (98 feet) and forming a canopy, through which one cannot see a single ray of sunlight. In general, there are four fabulous national parks in El Salvador, each with its own unique sights and attractions.
Those who prefer traditional beach-party entertainment to rock-climbing and wandering through the forest will by all means enjoy El Salvador beaches to their fullest. And this surely means one thing: surfing. Lots of people visit attractions in El Salvador with the only purpose of taking one of the famous guided surf trips along its 320 km (200 miles) Pacific Ocean coastline.
Finally, people who are fond of history and ethnography can take their time to explore the Maya ruins of Tazumal, which means 'pyramid where the victims were burned.' The tours through Tazumal, the most famous attractions in El Salvador and most well-studied of El Salvador's ruins located among numerous volcanoes and mountains in El Salvador provide the insight into the ancient culture of the tribes that used to settle on the plateau in the pre-Columbus times.
However, the average city dweller allured by the paragons of beauty may be surprised to find out that San Salvador, the oldest city in Central America, has actually very few ancient buildings. Ruined by the Salvador volcano, it was rebuilt several times, and now stands out as an urban centre with it own nightlife heart, Zona Rosa, full of nightclubs, bars and restaurants.
In highly elevated San Salvador the air temperature can be ten degrees lower than at daytime, so the nights can be very pleasant with live salsa music until late and the magnetic atmosphere of everlasting party. There are also many places to buy arts, crafts, and souvenirs. The grand place of interest in San Salvador is Cathedral Metropolitana, which is the burial place of Archbishop Oscar Arnulfo Romero, the greatest apostle of the poor in Latin America during the past century considered the Martyr of San Salvador.
Enjoying the attractions in El Salvador is a perfect way to have the time of your life, no matter what your idea of a good time is -- wildlife or nightlife. The best option, of course, is to combine both. People of Salvador are very friendly, and it is not difficult to make friends with them and party all night long. After all, this is what most tourists do when they come to San Salvador -- never regretting a single minute of it!
