Villa San Felice - a Jewel of the Capri Island

Added: 06/23/2006

Regarded as one of the most captivating resorts in Italy, the Island of Capri is known for its charming beauty, sweeping views, lemon trees, whitewashed villas and homes, winding lanes and flower-filled courtyards. It tends to be overcrowded in summer, as huge crowds of international tourists arrive every day to indulge in gorgeous scenery and romantic atmosphere. Some of the greatest attractions include Marina Grande, Anacapri, Marina Piccola, Bagni di Teberio and Punta Carnea. One of its most popular villas is the Villa San Felice.

Nestled in the heart of the Island of Capri, Villa San Felice reflects the simple, yet elegant and charming architectural style of the Island in every detail. Set in a lush garden surrounding it on all sides, it boasts a grand entrance and the floral compositions adorning the approach venue. The interior offers a welcoming and comfortable atmosphere and features fine marble, wrought iron and hand-made ceramic. The professional staff contributes to the sense of intimacy and for a pleasant and trouble-free stay.

The history of Villa San Felice can be traced back to the mid-XVII century, when Governor of Capri, Cavalier Carlo Sanfelice became owner of the land surrounding the villa. At that time this area was planted with citrus trees, while the building was home to the sisters of the order of Maria Theresa created by the Venerable Mother Serafina. Subsequently, the building was acquired by the Parish priest, who empowered his brother and current owner to convert it into a luxury villa.

Today, Villa San Felice is recognized as one of the oldest and most charming lodges in the Island of Capri, and its owner, Pietro Cerrotta one of the most famous personalities characterized by acquaintances and meetings with actors, artists and writers. In the 1950s, his restaurant in the bay of Marina Piccola was frequented by such celebrities, as Mario Lanza, Clark Gable, Tza Tza Gabor, Maria Callas and Aristotele Onassis among others. However, it was only in the 1970s that Pietro Cerrotta was able to dedicate himself to managing the villa, starting numerous improvements that in their simplicity and style have turned Villa San Felice into a jewel of the Capri. Its superb location places you close to everything worth a visit in this area, notably Certosa di San Giacomo, a monumental edifice which currently houses a museum and library. Next to this attraction you'll discover the lovely Giardini d'Augusto gardens that overlook the renowned Via Krupp, which in turn takes you to the alluring beaches of Marina Piccola and Torre Saracena.

Ranked with the top Capri hotels, Villa San Felice offers its guests 35 beautifully designed rooms and suites split over three floors and offering fantastic view of the garden. Some rooms have large terraces, where vacationers can relax, sunbathe and enjoy their breakfast. Offered by the villa are four types of rooms: standard, superior, medium and junior suite. Medium rooms are double apartments smaller that standard rooms and without balconies. Superior rooms are large double apartments with terrace that can sleep up to four people. Those looking for the greatest comfort should take advantage of the junior suites with mini bar and terrace able to accommodate up to three people. All rooms have air conditioning, satellite TV, heating, telephone, mini bar, safety box and hairdryer. Among the facilities Villa San Felice offers its visitors are a large pool with a superb sun terrace, and whirlpool surrounded by a garden with lemon trees, plants and flowers. Located on premises is the Snack Bar offering toasted sandwiches, hors d'oeuvres and mixed salads, as well as a dish of the day cooked by the owner.
