The Turks consist of two main islands: Grand Turk and Salt Cay, which are separated from the Caicos by a 22-mile-wide deep-water channel, the Turks Island Passage. The Caicos group consists of six principal islands: West Caicos, Providenciales, North Caicos, Grand Caicos, East Caicos and South Caicos. All are flanked by small uninhabited cays. Providenciales' posh hotels, casino gambling and direct flights from Miami attract most dive tourists for Turk and Caicos summer vacations. Grand Turk, on the other hand, has fabulous diving too, but lacks the posh resorts and takes a little more effort to get to.
Climate is tropical, marine, moderated by trade winds, sunny and relatively dry. Average temperature is 75-85 degrees year round. Tropical breezes keep weather comfortable - that is why Turk and Caicos summer resorts are considered to be a good vacation destination.
There are 230 miles of white sand beaches round all the islands surrounded by coral reefs and azure water for Turk and Caicos summer vacations. Grace Bay on Provo is the longest stretch of sand, at 12 miles, and despite the hotels it is possible to find plenty of empty space, but no shade. There is rarely any shade on the beaches.
During this year Turk and Caicos summer vacations get away from it all and enjoy the warm crystal clear water, clean air and miles of pure white sand beaches. The most beautiful blue water you can imagine surrounds Grand Turk. Clear and warm, the turquoise blue turns a deep dark blue just a few hundred yards from shore where the wall drops. Visibility averages 100 feet and the water temperature ranges from 82°-84° in the summer to 78° in the winter. Besides the magnificent corals, sponges and anemones, commonly seen creatures include; sea turtles, manta rays, eagle rays, mahi-mahi, barracuda, jacks, parrot fish, drums, atlantic spadefish, short nosed batfish, grouper, snapper, grunts, squirrelfish, lobster, spider crabs, moray eels, octopuses, shellfish, reef sharks, bull sharks, whale sharks, hammerheads, humpback whales. Combine the adventure of scuba diving and the thrill of whale watching during the winter months. The North Atlantic Humpback whales migrate south through the Grand Turk Passage to the Silver Banks and return again.
Experience diving or snorkeling during Turks and Caicos summer vacations. The reefs of Grand Turk invite you to come take a look at the enchantment of the underwater world and are perfect for underwater photography. The marine life is big and plentyful, the corals healty and colorful.
