Not many people would venture driving a car without having their vehicle properly insured, however, quite a few of us tend to neglect travel insurance when booking a vacation.

Not many people would venture driving a car without having their vehicle properly insured, however quite a few of us tend to neglect travel insurance when booking a vacation. Peace of mind is something you need the most while taking your family on a trip, so why would you jeopardize the journey of your dreams by forgetting about the insurance?

Several types of travel insurance are currently available through insurance providers.

Emergency Travel and Medical Insurance

This type of insurance protects against unexpected costs due to travel emergencies. Emergency Travel Medical Insurance provides coverage for eligible expenses which are incurred due to a medical emergency, including hospital room and board, physician, diagnostic tests, operating and emergency room charges and medication.

Trip Cancellation Insurance

Trip Cancellation Insurance covers you from your purchase of a trip until your scheduled departure date. If you are required to cancel your tip due to circumstances such as the sudden illness of you, an immediate relative or your traveling companion, involuntary job loss, default or extreme delay of your travel provider or terrorism at your destination, you will be reimbursed the non-refundable and non-transferable portion of your trip.

Trip Delay Insurance Trip Delay Insurance will reimburse you for the cost of your return airfare, in the event you have to delay your scheduled return date, while on a trip, due to your illness or disease, or the illness, disease or death of your immediate traveling companion.

Baggage Delay or Loss Insurance

Baggage Delay or Loss Insurance covers a certain amount per Insured Person for the actual cash value of most items of baggage and personal effects which are lost, damaged or stolen while you are on a trip. Coverage also includes a certain amount for the purchase of necessities required by a baggage delay of 12 hours or more.

Most of the above insurances are offered by major credit card suppliers to their clients, however the coverage is usually limited. Insurance companies that specialize in travel insurance usually offer a wider range of services and the coverage up to 100%.

For example, in case of emergency Travel Guard International (www.travelguide.com) offers medical or dental coverage up to $25,000, transport of dependent children back home, sick visit from a spouse or loved one and repatriation of remains.

There are hundreds of circumstances that could cause you to cancel your trip, return home early or force you to seek emergency medical treatment while traveling and travel insurance will save you a fortune in such cases. Travel insurance is designed to make travel a worry-free experience. Emergencies can happen even to the most well prepared traveler and it pays to be protected.
