Traditional wedding guest book or contemporary alternative?

Added: 11/28/2005

A wedding should be a memorable event to each particular detail; therefore, it is full of items, meant to preserve the memories. A wedding guest book is perhaps one of the oldest and classic means to keep the best wishes of your guests and to recollect them later at one of numerous wedding anniversaries. As with the other wedding elements, you can be creative with a wedding guest book design or use some of contemporary alternatives to it.

With so many things, making a wedding day memorable, including photography and video, classic wedding guest books start losing their importance to the event and many couples do not use wedding guest books at all. Simple wedding lists often substitute them if guests are supposed only to sign their names. However, a wedding guest book with high quality paper, an original design and a place for each guest to put not only his name, but also his best wish, a piece of advice or wisdom, is a good addition to your wedding. As you see, not all the guests will have an opportunity to express their ideas and wishes personally to you in the way they want to do it; thus, they can write them down in your wedding guest book.

Additionally, last few years have created several alternatives to a classic wedding guest book, which are fast gaining their popularity among young couples. You can successfully use note cards and pens for each guest to write his wish and leave them on the table at the reception entrance. Note cards are more convenient to use than a wedding guest book, since there are many of them, and you will not have your guests crowding over one wedding book. You can put these cards into a specially decorated and carved box and ceremoniously review them at each anniversary

If you want to be more artistic and, probably, aesthetic about a wedding guest book, consider one more option. More and more brides and grooms prefer to use a signature frame instead of a common wedding guest book. What is a signature frame? A signature frame is a frame with a high quality, acid free mat that has a cutout to place your favorite snapshot or a formal engagement picture, wedding invitation or a special poem. At your wedding or reception, you display a frame and your guests use a gel pen (most often included with the frame) to sign the mat and write personal expressions of their good wishes. After the wedding you have a beautiful picture, full of best wishes and wisdoms to hang in your house. Hence, a signature frame is appropriate for those, who want to display a kind of wedding guest book at their home. Unlike a traditional wedding guest book, a signature frame is a colorful reproduction with memories, surrounding the picture.

You can also use a tablecloth and special fabric pens instead of a traditional wedding guest book. After the reception, you can embroider the guests' signatures, best wishes and sentiments for a family heirloom.

Generally, you can be very creative and inventive about the wedding guest book substitutions and use any 'equipment' your imagination suggests. There can be note cards of peculiar forms or simple wedding lists that you will include into a "Book of us", journaling the best moments between you and your fiancé since the moment of your engagement.

Nevertheless, there are so many alternatives to a wedding guest book nowadays; it is not the least option either. Today, wedding guest books are available in a variety of designs, ranging from traditional to original and exotic; hence, they serve well to keep the best memories of your wedding for life.
