Generally, nearly all the countries, glorifying bullfighting, such as Spain, Mexico, Peru and the others, hold traditional bullfight fairs to honor the best in bullfighting traditions and culture. The cities of Madrid and Seville usually have bullfights every Sunday during the whole season and Barcelona has them every Sunday during July and August. However, these bullfights seldom attract the best matadors, as they will be appearing at traditional bullfight fairs.
Lima annually holds a traditional bullfight fair, featured as one of the best. The ancient tradition of holding a traditional bullfight fair in Lima has been developed by relatively small, wealthy elite from the Spanish Conquest up to the present day. Today, the leading families of Peru, who breed bulls on their ranches, hold fights in Lima during the months of October and November. They invite some of the world?s best matadors from Spain, Mexico and Venezuela to fight at the prestigious Plaza de Acho in Rimac, the oldest and traditional district in the city of Lima.
The Plaza de Acho bullring was built in 1766 by the order of Viceroy Amat y Junyet with Hipolito Landaburu's support. It is the third oldest plaza of the world and considered the most beautiful and famous. The Plaza has always served to the best matadors of the world. The main trophy of the traditional bullfight fair of "Senor de los Milagros" is "El Escapulario de Oro? or the Scapular of Gold. Near the Plaza de Acho, there is the Taurine Museum, which exhibits magnificent collections of taurine paintings, suits, trophies and pictures on the history and facts of Acho.
The other cities also have bullfight fairs, usually lasting for at least a week with at least one bullfight per day. Here is the list of major Spanish bullfight fairs and dates:
