What is fishing and why it occupies minds of those who are keen of this ancient variation of hunt? Fishing, as it was already mentioned, is the activity of hunting for fish, shellfish, turtles, frog and some edible marine invertebrates. The fishing practice appeared at the very least about ten thousand years ago and since than has been improved all the time with many techniques, traditions and fishing tackle, which were greatly influenced by the development of new technologies. Everything started with simple noodling (USA) or trout tickling (Britain), where both terms express the idea of catching fish without any special fishing tackle, using hands only. The first tackles that appeared were bows and nets, which were knotted from wool and silk. Modern nets are made of artificial materials, usually polyamides. Such nets are considerably cheaper and much more reliable than those made of organic thread. There were a lot of strange and unusual methods of sea fishing, for example, Cheena Vala, fishermen who used that method took horizontal nets knotted to huge mechanical contrivances, and thus with the only possible vertical movement it was dipped into the water and raised out.
Kite fishing is another oriental invention, that appeared in China. It was aimed at boatless fisherman in order to provide them with an access to waters available on boats only. Ice fishing is an activity that is still very popular, especially in countries with very long winters. Ice fishermen make a hole in the surface ice of a river or a lake and catch fish with traditional lines and hooks out of it.
For all the techniques a great variety of different fishing tackle is used. Fly fishing obviously requires different kind of fly, like plastic worms, lizards, grubs, shad bodies, tube skirts and other soft plastic lures.
Hooks are also specialised according to the breed and weight of the trophy. It is possible to find about eight hundred styles and sizes of them, like worm, jig, spinner bait, and treble. Tying materials come of no less importance and can appear chenille, bucktails, kiptails, hair and thread.
Usually there is the great variety of different fishing tackle displayed in Fishing Suppliers Shops, that provide fishermen with any kind of equipment from tents to Fish Encyclopedias.
Fishing can not only come as somebody's personal pastime or hobby. Apart from recreational and sportive fishing, there's also the commercial one. It has to exist, of course; otherwise we won't be able to enjoy so many types of gourmet fish during our meals!
Commercial fishing techniques and fishing tackle vary from region to region and basically depends on the most wide spread techniques of the region. But it is still possible to highlight the main techniques, commonly used in a number of fishing regions. They are: trawling, seining, drirtnetting, handlining, longlinning, gillnetting and sometimes diving.
Enjoy yourself during the dawn fishing and your fish-course during your dinner afterwards!
