Tianjin City is a place of great history

Tianjin, which is the third largest city in China, is also one of Northern China's leading industrial cities. It is one of the most prosperous business area as well as a distribution center for goods and materials in Northern China. Tianjin is also a famous historical city with many scenic spots and historic sites.

Tianjin, Jin for short is a municipality that is just under the Central Government as well as an Opening City. It is located in the eastern part of the North China Plain, covering an area of 11,300 square kilometers and has a population of about six million. Tianjin City can be reached from Beijing from rail, bus, or air. Tianjin is an important railroad, air, and shipping hub and lies at the confluence of five tributaries of the Haihe River.

Tianjin history is long and illustrious from a fishing village that was pretty ordinary from one of the most trade centers in Northern China. The fist settlements in the region date back to the times of the Warring Kingdoms from 221-475 BC. Tianjin was well known as a trading center in the 12th century when it was the center of sale for corn and other food stuffs from the south. Tianjin was considered to be one of the largest military fortresses in the Yuan Dynasty from 1271-1368 because of its particular geographical point of access to Beijing. The emperor graciously bestowed Tianjin on the city during the beginning of the Ming Dynasty from 1368 to 1644. Tianjin means where the emperor crossed the river. In 1860, after The First Opium War Tianjin was further expanded to become the second largest business and communications center in the country. By the end of the 10th century, it had grown into a bustling center for international commerce. Tianjin's location in the middle of North China's Gold Coast was natural setting for the development of a trading post. Today, Tianjin City has China's largest container wharf and ships from every country in the world uses its facilities.

The best known scenic spots and historical sites in Tianjing include Ning Garden, Temple of the Heavenly Empress, Dule Temple in Ji Country, The Great Wall of the Huangya Pass, and the Pashan Area. Tianjing is one of the most prosperous business area as well as a distribution center for goods and services in North China. Being one of China's largest industrial centers, Tianjing has built up an all around industrial system with machinery, electronics, textiles, chemicals, metallurgy, and food stuffs as its main products. The production on a large scale of arts and crafts such as homemade carpets, Yangliuqing's New Years pictures made from an old engraved wood plate, Zhang's painted clay figurines, and kites which holds an important position in the country. Tianjin has already achieved success in its Economic and Technology Zone in the Northern part of the Tanggu district.

Tianjin lies in a temperate zone and has four distinct seasons a year. The average yearly temperature o thus place is13 degrees Celsius with hot summer and freezing temperatures in January. The best seasons to visit Tianjin are autumn and spring because pleasant temperatures can be expected.

The cuisine of Tianjin is different than other cuisines in China. The famous Tianjin City style braise creamed cabbage is worth a try. Fish and seafood are also very common.
