Disneyland opened on July 17, 1955 and instantly became the world's most recognizable and popular theme park. Disneyland Park is the only Disney theme park that Walt Disney ever saw completed. He could often be seen strolling through his park speaking with guests and signing autographs. Disneyland is located one hour south of Los Angeles, in Anaheim, California. The park itself is essentially laid out the same as it was for its 1955 opening day with the exception of the addition of a new land called Mickey?s Toontown. The original Disneyland Park has set many industry standards over the years, with the world's first steel-track, multi-train Matterhorn roller coaster and other ground-breaking rides. In 2001, Disney opened a second Anaheim theme park, Disney's California Adventure, on the site of Disneyland's old parking lot.
The Disneyland classic, Disney World Railroad, is a calm and relaxing sanctuary from the hustle and bustle guests often face at Disneyland Park. Disneyland Railroad was inspired by Walt Disney love of trains. Disneyland Railroad is the first thing you see before you as you enter the park. It?s a sheer Disney nostalgia. From when you first board the train to Small World, from the Primieval World to the Splash Mountain glimpses, this is pure Disney magic at its best. "All aboard" a genuine steam train. You can disembark at New Orleans Square, Toontown, Tomorrowland or travel roundtrip on the only ride at Disneyland you can stay on all day. Between the Tomorrowland and Main Street, U.S.A. stations is an exciting trip into the Grand Canyon and Primeval World - land of the dinosaurs. Disneyland trains are a great way to get from one place to another or take in a scenic overview of the Disneyland Park. Plus it's great to go through Splash Mountain and watch a bunch of ex-America Singers telling you that everything is satisfactual. You might think a train can hold a lot of people, but it seems that very few people actually get off, so the line is longer than it looks. The train goes around the park in a clockwise direction, so taking it from Main Street to Tomorrowland probably would take longer than it would to walk it. This ride is great for those with tired legs and great patience. Although the grand-circle tour is the full experience, most of that experience is from Tomorrowland to Main Street USA. Main Street is a reproduction and tribute to a 1900 turn-of-the-century Middle American small town.
On nights guests are treated to the multi-media presentation. Mickey reprises his role as the Sorcerer?s Apprentice from the classic film Fantasia. Amide laser images, fireworks, special lighting and a musical score that is first rate Mickey leads the battle of good over evil. This is simply the best out door spectacular to be found at any theme park anywhere. The presentation is located at the end of Tom Sawyers Island with viewing available from Frontierland and New Orleans Square waterfront.
Disneyland Park remains the world's most famous theme park and one of the most visited sites in the world.
