The Wonder Vitamin For Dark Skinned Humans

Added: 01/17/2006

Light is essential to all life on the globe. There exists a growing body of scientific evidence indicating that some people actually require more light exposure in order to function effectively. Dark skinned people as well as others even should have outdoor sunbathes in order to their skin to produce Vitamin D-the wonder vitamin. Moreover, dark skinned people can develop a skin bleaching if long deprived by the sun.

There are various reasons, physiological and psychological, why exposure to light is desirable. But in spite of all threats of  sunlight that overhang our skin, there are some people who just NEED UV light to maintain normal vital activity. These are dark skinned humans, the vital processes of which depend on the amount of Vitamin D .When dark skinned people  are exposed to longer hours of bright light, they feel happier and are able to enjoy life. You may know that there are various health benefits associated with the exposure to sunlight, such as the production of Vitamin D3 in the prevention of bone diseases (such as osteoporosis) and in the improvement of symptoms of psoriasis. Exposure to bright light, such as generated by the mid-day summer sun, causes the brain not only of dark skinned, but practically of all people to suppress the release of the hormone melanin that acts as a depressant in the body if generated during the daytime.
Besides dark skinned individuals have a far stronger immunodefence against damaging power of UV Rays. The thing is in melanin- the pigment that determines color of skin, hair, and eyes, is produced in cells called melanocytes. If these cells die or cannot form melanin, the skin becomes lighter or completely white. Quite understandable that the darker is a person's skin, the longer he or she has to be in the sun or exposed to UVB radiation to form a significant amount of vitamin D (2). Sunlight consists of energy waves the energy of which  can be identified by its length in nanometers,  travels from the sun to the Earth. Light can be broken into three general categories: infrared, visible and invisible and ultraviolet light invisible in its spectrum disintegrates on UVA, UVB and UVC. In plain words, dark skinned are well protected from the exposure of both three types of UV rays by their own skin already.  So they may use sunscreens with little sun-protecting factors (SPF).  Like melanin, sunscreen also absorbs UV radiation and therefore greatly diminishes the skin's vitamin D production in the organism of dark skinned people.
For example, sunscreen with a PDF of 8 diminishes a dark skinned  person's ability to produce vitamin D by 95%. In addition, winter sunlight in the northern latitudes (New York City, Boston, and San Francisco) does not have enough UVB radiation to produce vitamin D in the skin. And this can even lead to the dark skinned bleaching - vitiligo. Vitiligo is a skin condition of white patches resulting from loss of pigment. Any part of the dark skinned body may be affected,   usually both sides are similarly by a few to many milky-white patches. Fortunately, skin bleaching affects one or two of every 100 dark skinned  people.  besides it happens with those who abuse bleaching creams and sunscreens since the very teenage. so that thó risk gropu is built by 20-30 year-old dark skinned people. encourage your children not to use such creams a lot, as awell as not to tan without any sun protection. you see, it is not an easy task to define the very protection, but your health is worth constant care about it. So, enjoy sunlight  but never neglect visiting your dermatologist.
