The wine route: find the best

Added: 05/31/2006

Wine is the main part of each holiday dinner. What do we buy when get our first salary, when have very pleasant news or obtain a long-waited position? Of course, wine! This drink accompanies all main events of our life, being a witness of our graduating and marriage, award-winnings and getting scientist degrees. Of course, each person prefers different sorts of wine, but you can hardly find a man who will refuse a glass of a good wine when having a good reason to celebrate something.

What countries can you name if asked about the main wine producers on the globe?  Perhaps, France.  It is really a state famous for its wines of the highest quality for several centuries already.  Even the regions of this country have the names, which are usual for us as wine names.  And if you want to find a famous province in France known for its wine-making traditions you won't find anything more renowned than Alsace.

This province is situated almost on the border with Germany and Switzerland and has such a rich and really amazing history that it will be reasonable and never-boring to study it as the separate school subject.  Probably, it is so in France or in the region of Alsace itself.  Nevertheless, the province is more famous for its cuisine and wines than for historical events and culture, no less astounding.

There exists the so-called wine road, or 'the wine route', which is one of the main attractions of the region.  People often come to Alsace to see the very this site, and they are, indeed, right.  If you see the route you see Alsace.  The fact is that the wine route is the way stretching from the north part of the region to its south area along all the main and most interesting wine-making villages.  It has a length of about 170 kilometers and gives the visitors a great possibility not only to see the endless wine-yards and prosperous farms, but also to taste the delicious drinks Alsace has been producing for more than three centuries.

The seven sorts of wine, which form the key Alsace attractions, are: Sylvaner, Pinot Blanc, Riesling, Muscat d'Alsace, Tokay Pinot Gris, Gewurztraminer and Pinot Noir.  Sylvaner is light, fresh and has a fruity flavor.  Pinot Blanc is racy and supple.  If you buy Riesling you will have an opportunity to delight its wonderful bouquet and jentle fruitiness.  Muscat d'Alsace is a dry wine, which resembles the taste of fresh grapes.  Tokay Pinot Gris is robust, like Gewurztraminer.   As for the last type, such but being only in the list, Pinot Noir is the only red wine produced in the French province of Alsace.  Its taste resembles cherry.

As you may notice a walk along the wine route may bring you a lot of pleasure, because every possible wine-wish may be fulfilled in this wonderful place.  Even if you do not like wine most of all you won't be able to refuse the temptation to try these sorts, and you will surely find the one you like.  Besides, when you are in Alsace it is absolutely impossible not to pay attention to its miraculous, unforgettable nature and historical monuments.  When in the wine route, you will meet ancient half-ruined castles at your every step.  You will see grandiose fortresses built by Romans, mysterious forests full of invisible, but never-ending life, and majestic mountains calling for you to honor their grandeur and power.

Traveling to Alsace can never be forgotten, and there is no person in the world who can dislike this beautiful place. Try this magic yourself, and you will definitely believe it.
