The Tourism and Travel Research Association -- Goals and Objectives for the Tourism Industry

The Tourism and Travel Research Association is a professional body, composed of users and providers of tourism and travel research, and serving as a primary resource to tourism and travel industry. As a recognized leader, the Association develops standards and promotes application of top quality travel and tourism research. The TTRA membership in more than 20 countries all over the world offers unique networking opportunities.

Established in 1970, the Tourism and Travel Research Association has established itself as an international network of over 800 marketing and travel and tourism research professionals from a variety of backgrounds. Throughout its history the Association has been dedicated to pursuing a number of tasks, namely:
- To facilitate access to a number of information sources to support its members' research efforts;
- To encourage professional development through TTRA research program;
- To educate members in planning, marketing and research through networking, conferences and publications;
- To provide members with the opportunity to interact with their peers; to promote the development and application of professional research in tourism and travel industry;
- To promote development of travel and tourism research in institutes of higher education.
The vast majority of professionals join the Tourism and Travel Research Association for educational and networking opportunities. TTRA offers a unique multi sector industry network that facilitates access to travel marketing professionals, research suppliers and researchers; ensures the effectiveness of tourism and travel marketing, development and planning; and encourages professional development. Thus, the Association is beneficial to those who strive to develop and explore new research trends, methodologies and issues; determine effectiveness of their promotional campaigns; benchmark their products and gather competitive intelligence; network with similar organizations in all sectors of travel and tourism marketing research industry; and use research data for sound marketing, tactical and strategic decisions.

Offered by the Tourism and Travel Research Association are the following types of membership: Premier Membership, designed for professionals with high level of research and offering an array of promotional opportunities, and Professional Organization Membership, providing the same level of services and benefits for organizations and corporations with multiple members. Six separate membership levels in TTRA include Professional Organization, Academic Organization, Lifetime, Premier, Standard and Student, each of them provided with a range of benefits, like conference registration discounts, web site listings and a subscription to the Journal of Travel Research.

Among the TTRA's members are individuals who use tourism research to strengthen competitive or strategic position of their organization; tourism research suppliers; research professionals with particular interest in networking with industry peers; academics and students eager to share the results of research across the broader tourism community; and industry practitioners interested in their professional development. All membership terms within the Travel and Tourism Research Association run from January through December.

Currently the Association has 795 active members, 85% of them being members of a regional chapter. TTRA chapters can be found worldwide, allowing you to enlarge your wealth of knowledge and diverse experiences.
