The Telluride Bluegrass Festival Brings Together Thousands of Music Lovers

Added: 12/17/2005

Regarded as one of the most progressive annual festivals of the country, the Telluride Bluegrass Festival has grown to become the eminent world event since the establishment of the Festival in 1974. Since its foundation, the Festival has expanded to include various styles of performers, like jazz, country, rock, pop, newgrass and bluegrass.

The Telluride Bluegrass Festival is held annually in the San Juan Valley.  Its audience is limited to 10, 000 people per day. Among the permanent participants of the festival are musicians Bela Fleck, Tim O'Brien, Sam Bush, Peter Rowan, Tony Rice, Jerry Douglas, David Grisman and John
Cowan, who make significant contributions to the prosperity and well-being of the Festival.  The Telluride Bluegrass Festival was started in 1974 by Fall Greek, a bluegrass band, and it was first held during the Independence Day celebration. Attracting 1,000 spectators from the very beginning, the Festival added new events, becoming more professional every year. By 1978, the Telluride Bluegrass Festival had 7,500 spectators. However, the promoters of the Festival did not benefit much from it, and decided to move it to another location. In 1983, the Festival was seen as a nationally recognized event, which continued the tradition and draws enormous crowds each year. The sixth annual Festival was filmed by the Boulder television station.  The Telluride Bluegrass Festival is extremely popular among music lovers, who have the chance to witness different styles blending and to enjoy four days of non-stop music. The ABEO Corporation, seen as a national provider of wireless Internet technology, was selected by the Festival organizers to provide services for nearly 10,000 people, who visited the Festival in 2005. ABEO Corporation is responsible for reliable Internet access and access to a wireless network. The highlights of the last Festival, held in the summer of 2005, included: Stanley Clarke, Jewel, Bobby McFerrin, Alison Krauss and Union Station, Earl Scruggs, Jean-Luc Ponty, Wilco, and other celebrities. Among the most popular activities in and around Telluride were things like: hiking, mountain biking, horseback riding, riding the
Gondola, and visiting historic ghost towns. Placed in the San Juan Mountains and surrounded by the beautiful architecture of the Telluride Box Canyon, the Festival provides everyone with an unforgettable weekend. The 32nd annual Telluride Bluegrass Festival, held on June 16th, 2005, surpassed all the previous celebrations. Together with the Walnut Valley Bluegrass Festival, it is seen today as one of the top cultural events of the country.  The Walnut Valley Bluegrass Festival is held annually in Winfield, Kansas. Various acoustic styles are represented, though the main one is the bluegrass. The history of the Walnut Valley Bluegrass Festival dates back to September 1972, when the first festival was observed. Winfield is famous for its instrumental contests with the National Flat-Pick Guitar Championship regarded as being the one for the headlines. Other prominent contests include the National Hammer Dulcimer Championship, the National Bluegrass Banjo Championship, the National Mountain Dulcimer Championship, the International Finger Picked Guitar Championship and the International Autoharp Championship. Contests for mandolin and fiddle are also extremely popular. One week before the opening of the festival, camping begins on the Cowley County Fairgrounds.
