The most popular music - the most irritating one?Contemporary most popular music seems to be a very complicated thing, if you start trying just to enumerate all the genres. You may not know about existence of such trends in music like acid house\funk, fusion, grunge, jungle and so on. Sometimes to define all the genres is an "impossible mission", because the number of them is constantly increasing. But you needn`t have much experience to define the most popular music. Critics call it " pop music", and usual epithet to the word combination is " irritating", "annoying", "affectionate"," silly", "sugary" and whatnot.
The roots of this most popular music trend lead to the beginning of the 20th century. It appeared in the 20s as a concept , covering different kinds of music. Its primary objective was and is to simplify the tune for easy texts to be set to it. In other words , this is the mass-oriented stream in music culture, which establishes only well- bought hits.
Though popular music lacks any creative initiative, there are some performers who managed to introduce some originality, innovation into the traditional popular music.
The first real most popular music star was Elvis Presley, whose "A Little Less Conversation " occupied the top of 17 world hit-parades, holding on for a number of weeks! The "Rock-n-roll King"`s success was surpassed by "The Beatles", who determined the most popular music`s development for about 20 years. As a result, it gave rise to a stunning commercial effect , having made pop machine moving. Since that time the music became closely connected with the entertaining industry. Roughly speaking, most popular hits are more a commercial product, which involves really fantastic mass of money, than music. It is a part of the huge world of show business, with a highly developed system of fan clubs, sound recording companies, promoters.
But why then is it so popular? Despite the accusations in all "mortal sins", the pop music is alive. Moreover it `s flourishing and producing hundreds of hits , which are really charming. It`s true that modern pop music since the 90s lacks variety of performers, or to be more exact, it suffers shortage of bright individualities. Mariah Carry , Britney Spears, Beyonce are on the one side, Limp Bizkit, Eminem, Pink - on the other and their low-standard copies - everywhere. But still, we like them all, listen to the hits, spend money buying new disks, tickets to their concerts, etc Maybe we are exposed to the pressure of this "pop machine", maybe we don` t pay much attention to what is being broadcasted, but maybe we like it?
The thing is, that music, as everything in the world, can be good or bad and its quality not always depends on the amount of financial support. No one can`t deny pop music`s charm of melodious tune, simple words, and its magnificent energy, which makes you sway to the vigour. It is going on and we have no power to stop the hit-producing stream.
Define your own attitude to the most popular music is up to you, and it doesn`t matter which style do you prefer. The only advice I give you: judge not by the style, but by the quality of the music!
