Brazil is one of the most popular tourists' destinations throughout the year. Being extremely vast, larger than the continental United States, Brazil offers a variety of cultures and topographies.
The range is evident in the contrast of the Amazon rain forest to the mountain towns of Minas Gerais, the urban jungle of Sao Paulo and the vast central plateau around Brasilia and the world-famous beaches of Copacabana and Ipanema. It all adds up to exotic and exciting Brazil attractions where the common denominators are samba and Carnival, sunshine and beaches and sultry smiles.
Perhaps, there's not a single person who has never heard about the Brazil Carnival.
Since the medieval times Carnival is one of traditional Brazil attractions. At that time the streets of Brazilian towns ran riot during the three-day period before Lent, leading up to Ash Wednesday with people in masks hurling stink bombs and squirting each other with flour and strong-smelling liquids. However, in the 19th century a wife of a hotel owner, living in Rio de Janeiro changed the way of celebrating the Carnival. She sent out invitations to her friends, hired musicians and organized a masked ball.
Later the masquerade became fashionable. This is considered to be the root of the "Baile de Carnaval" that dominates in Southern Brazil. In Northern Brazil, though, the Street Carnival is more popular. Thousands of people come out in the streets, follow the bands playing samba and traditional Carnival songs.
You can participate in the most famous of Brazil attractions in Rio de Janeiro. This city boasts the biggest and the best known all over the world Carnaval. Samba School Parade is its most popular and colourful part. Each school has hundreds of extremely low-income participants from the city suburbs. All the carnival Rio's samba schools compete with each other and are judged on every aspect of their presentation by a jury. Each school's show needs to be based on a certain theme (either historic or literary) or present a certain outstanding personality. The performers depict the plot by singing samba songs and performing on huge floats.
For those, who prefer passive leisure and those admiring nature, there is nothing better than crystal clear water and a remote beach with white sand, green trees and brown rocks, far from houses and roads.
