Over the years the International Federation of Tourism, known also as the International Federation of Information Technology and Tourism, has strived to become an internationally recognized professional body, whose objectives can be defined as following:

The members of the International Federation of Tourism strive to create an organization, which is member-driven and member-responsive and can provide the best cooperation, interaction and information exchange possible. First and foremost, it is the Global Forum for Travel and Tourism Technology and Business, considered to be a must for all travel and tourism professionals. Held annually in such popular destinations as Edinburgh, Innsbruck, Barcelona, Istanbul, Helsinki and Montreal, the conference is the leading global event in travel and tourism industry, supported by the European Commission, the WTO and WTTC.
Available to the members of the International Federation of Tourism are special Internet groups and workshops, providing opportunities to share experiences with professionals alike for particular specialized areas. The joint project of the International Federation of Tourism and WTO for example is aimed at establishing the evaluation for tourist websites. Such research groups allow the organization's members to influence changes in the marketplace.
Established to pursue their own activities with the aim of raising awareness of Travel and Tourism within their region, Regional Chapters organize a constantly growing number of events, dedicated to this particular purpose.
