This package is still recognized as the hallmark of the dude ranch, whose visitors are offered unique experience of romance, adventure and fascinating beauty of the West in a century-old style without sacrificing modern amenities of historic lodge rooms or attractive cabins found on the ranches today.
Regarded as a popular destination for single and group travelers, couples and families, dude ranches are designed to satisfy all interests and needs. The majority of them offer a wide range of activities, including private access fishing, horse riding, river rafting, cattle drives, children's programs, cookouts and relaxation close to nature, so that the choice is extensive enough to appeal to every visitor.
With the exploration of the American West by the end of the XIX century, the stories of its wonders have spread to Europe and to the eastern parts of the USA, which resulted in an increased number of visitors to these ranches. Since 1926 the Guest Ranch Association has been operating throughout western states of the country, adhering to the goal of providing visitors worldwide with high quality ranches.
Comprising originally 35 ranches from the Yellowstone area, the Association has grown to a 109 member association, consisting of ranches from thirteen western states and two Canadian provinces. Regardless of this rapid growth, today more than ever the Guest Ranch Association is dedicated to protecting natural resources and preserving the beauty of dude ranches, offering that original experience, which attracted the first guests.
Following this aim, the Association has established industry standards and a means for successful promotion of dude ranch vacations. Going back to its roots, the Guest Ranch Association is still recognized as a diverse group, comprised of cattle ranches and mountain top lodges, offering a ranch atmosphere. All of them, from Colorado dude ranches to Canadian lodges, preserve hospitality and warmth and allow for the unique western ranch experience.
Today dude ranch vacations enjoy wide popularity among those looking for refuge from routine and pressures of modern life. Many visitors come to stay for extended periods at a Colorado due ranch, willing to experience a variety of activities the ranches have to offer. For most people dude ranches are primarily associated with horses. However, there is much more here to indulge in beyond horse riding.
