The Feydeau Island: visit the native land of your favorite book heroes

It often happens that when we read an interesting book we do not only want to visit the country described, but also have a wish to visit the home land of the writer. Especially when his book is so astonishing and bright that it leaves a deep imprint in our souls and makes us think about our existence, look at our lives from the inside. This is the feeling, which appears every time on reading the novels of Jules Verne, an outstanding French writer, popular all around the globe.

If you are a book lover your childhood was, probably, full of Dumas and Verne novels, because these books are a real cultural heritage of the world.  They can never be forgotten, and as we read them nowadays our children and grandchildren will read them in future.  Such books teach us how to love and to worry, to be brave and sincere, to respect knowledge and to aspire to the realization of our dreams, even if they seem unachievable.  We read these novels and become more noble and thoughtful, and the point is that we teach to live in accordance with the laws of honor and nobility.  And this is the greatest gift the writers could give us.  Such books can never die and will always worry the souls and disturb the minds.

If you really want to visit the native land of Jules Verne you will have to make a trip to the western France, as the Feydeau Island where this outstanding man was born is situated right there.  It is the territory of Nantes, a great industrial centre of the country.  Visit the Feydeau Island, and you will be amazed at its architecture and atmosphere, which are absolutely unique and do not have any analogues even in the surrounding city.  The locality abounds in residences built in the 18th century.  They are so colorful that you won't be able to avert the look.  Iron balconies, sunny terraces, picturesque gardens and the never-vanished spirit of history - all of this makes the Feydeau Island a perfect place for rest.  When there, you easily believe that the very this place was the one where Jules Verne wrote his outstanding literature masterpieces.

But Nantes has a lot of other attractions except the Feydeau Island.  This city is a highly developed industrial centre rich in enterprises, which are occupied with medicine, finance, information technologies and other business lines.  Being once the most important port of France, the region is nowadays the fourth most developed engineer and industrial centre of the country.  Of course, factories and companies are not the major points of interest for tourists, but there are a lot of other Nantes attractions, which make thousands of tourists visit the land every year.

Thus, parks and gardens gave the territory a definitely merited name 'the Green Nantes', as 150 kilometers of rivers and an outstanding green heritage make it a favorite rest destination for nature lovers.  As well, if you want to see the most popular flower in the city you are to go to the La Beaujoire floral park.  The population of Nantes fell in love with magnolias at the beginning of the 18th century, and nowadays this park has more than 400 varieties of this beautiful plant.  There are also very interesting architectural sights in the region, which combine ancient and modern styles creating the unique atmosphere of this French city.  Of course, Nantes is not so popular as Paris, Nice or Toulon, but it really deserves your attention.  Small towns are sometimes even more interesting than large cities, and, besides, they are not so crowded and loud.  Just think what you want from your holidays and book a flight - vacations are but beautiful everywhere.
