The Festival of Arts ? A Great Opportunity to Foster Cultural Development

Thousands of arts festivals take place annually all over the United States, Canada, Australia and Europe. They are visited by millions of professional artists and admirers from all over the world. Among the most prestigious and popular of the festival of arts are Galway Arts Festival, the Adelaide Festival of Arts, Lakefront Festival of Arts, the New Zealand International Arts Festival and Tapestry Arts Festival.

Held bi-annually in Adelaide, South Australia, the Adelaide Festival of Arts is regarded as one of the greatest and most prestigious arts festivals in Australia and the world. The strong tradition of the festival, on-going now for many years, showcases the presentation of a wide range of art from Australia, as well as the whole world. Established in 1960, the Adelaide Festival of Arts is held every even year.

 Events comprising the festival include theatre, opera, dance, cabaret, contemporary and classical music and new media. The festival is located on the North Terrace, the cultural center of Adelaide, which is home to Elder Park, the Adelaide Festival Theatre, the State Library of South Australia, the Art Gallery of South Australia, the South Australian Museum, the University of South Australia, the University of Adelaide and the Adelaide Botanic Gardens and Park.

In addition to the North Terrace, the City of Adelaide can boast other art galleries and entertainment sites, like the Rundle Mall and the Rundle Street. Since the day of its foundation, the festival has grown to gain the status of an internationally praised art organization with a stainless reputation for artistic leadership.

The Galway Arts Festival is held annually in Galway, Ireland. Started in 1987, it has grown to the largest festival of arts in Ireland, attracting not only local, but international artists. The festival is organized by Galway Arts Festival Ltd, a nonprofit organization. Featuring more than 400 performers, artists, writers and musicians from England, France, the United States, Canada and Scotland, the Galway Arts Festival can be truly called the center of cultural excellence in Ireland.

Tapestry Arts Festival is held every Labor Day weekend in San Jose, California. This festival of arts showcases four entertainment stages, 350 craftspeople and artists, Jazz, Blues, Rock and Classical music, theatre and dance, indoor home and a garden show.

One of the premier festival of arts in the United States is the Lakefront Festival of Arts, which celebrated its anniversary in June 2005. Among the festival admirers are art connoisseurs as well as those who "don't know art, but know what they like"!  The Lakefront Festival of Arts is located in front of the Art Museum on Art Museum Drive in Milwaukee. Since 1957 the largest volunteer support group Friends of Art has been working within the museum, which sponsors major events to benefit art exhibitions. Throughout its history the group has contributes more than $5 million for the purchase of hundreds of works of art.

Finally, the New Zealand International Arts Festival is held in the capital of New Zealand, Wellington. It is considered the largest cultural event in the nation, which was established to celebrate the art establishment within New Zealand and worldwide. The first festival of arts occurred in 1986, while the last one will take place in February-March 2006. The artistic program of the New Zealand International Arts Festival comprises high quality opera, dance, theatre, music and visual and literary arts.
