Established in 1923, the most impressive hotel in Rio, the Copacabana Palace Hotel was designed by Joseph Gire, the French architect, inspired by the Carlton Hotel in Cannes and the Negesco in Nice. Since its opening the hotel has been owned by the Guinle family of Rio de Janeiro. In 1989 it was acquired by Orient-Express Hotels, Trains and Cruises. Beginning with 1990 the Copacabana Palace Hotel has been exposed to the extensive refurbishment program, aimed at retaining and strengthening its position as a premiere hotel of South America. Thus, major innovations included a new method of the facade illumination and renovation of one of the largest and most impressive swimming pools in the city.

Today the Copacabana Palace Hotel occupies an area of more than 12,000 square meters of one of the most expansive real estate in Brazil. During the period of 1991-1995 the Main Building and the Tower Building saw complete renovation, and two floors, holding 225 guest rooms and suites were added to the hotel's property. The Mediterranean-style building of the hotel is elegant and imposing, offering great facilities and pampered comfort. In its architectonic design and overall atmosphere, the Copacabana Palace embodies a classic blend of European and Latin styles.

Another distinctive feature of the hotel is its superb location: it is just minutes from the city center, twenty miles from International Airport of Rio de Janeiro and eight miles from the domestic airport. The Copacabana Palace has also introduced of late its exclusive Lincoln Town Car Service, designed with safety and comfort of guests in mind. Two black Lincoln town cars have been invested, as well as a professional chauffeur team operating 24 hours a day.

The most luxurious and renowned hotel in the city, the Copacabana Palace features 225 deluxe and standard rooms, 147 of which can be found in the main building and 78 in the Tower Wing. All the apartments face either Copacabana Avenue or the sea. The fifth floor has executive rooms and suites, benefiting from a variety of facilities, and executive lounge with drinks and snacks served throughout the day.

All the guest rooms feature superb amenities, like VCR, major International channels, electronic safe, direct dial telephones and air conditioning, while Penthouse suites have private swimming pools, French fabrics, oriental carpets and works of art that make these apartments the ideal place for those accustomed to stylish living.
