The Benefits of A Boys and Girls Club for Our Youth

Added: 01/13/2006

A Boys and Girls Club is established in order to give a possibility to our children to develop their skills, to give them a chance to test their knowledge and polish up their abilities, to provide them with some kind of specific knowledge which they need but can not find anywhere else. If we look into the history of society we can easily find different types of clubs by interests which have been in existence for a long time.

Where would we be without a Boys and Girls Club? And more importantly, where would we be without the many successful companies and corporations who donate millions of dollars that allow these clubs to continue operating. Who knows for sure the real motives behind such actions? Do companies such as Microsoft donate money because it's a great tax deduction? Or is because they really care about the well-being and future of so many under privileged youth?

A good example is indeed the Microsoft Corporation, which has recently instituted a program for children originating from low-to-medium income American families. The main goal of Bill Gates and this initiative is to "even out" the so-called "digital" inequality which exists in American society. The program hopes to allocate about $100 million dollars - just a drop in the bucket for Microsoft - in order to children with a possibility to have access to computers and Internet.

The program is known as Club Tech. It is hoped that the program will attract more than 3.3 million children and teenagers from poor families. Within this program more than 2600 entities each one acting as a boys and girls club will be established during the next five years. Boys and girls club of the United States and possibly abroad will benefit.

Out of the total amount of $100 million, over 12 million of that amount will be allocated for the program's current needs, and Microsoft will provide its software products with a worth of nearly $90 million dollars. Teachers and educators will be prepared and trained especially for this boys and girls club of internet knowledge.

If we are talking about boys, there are educational clubs for the boys of 7-14 years old, sport clubs, tourism clubs, technical clubs, self-defense, karate, electronic means and communication, culture of different countries, and a boys and girls club of
historical interest --here are a lot of them.

The same one can say about girls, generally the are clubs established especially for girls and there are clubs established especially for boys, but there are a lot of societies dealing with boys and girls where our children can spend their time together where they can realize their joint interests.

Another type of boys and girls club which deserves our attention and which is very popular right now is boys and girls clubs of religious knowledge and education. In many foreign countries the rules for organizing such religious schools are different, but the idea is the same: to explain the main religious ideas and culture to our children. Say in the United States religious education is often provided through the net of the so-called "Sunday schools" which are, by the way, becoming very popular in post-soviet countries as well.

May be this type of school is not exactly what could be called boys and girls club but it is a type of entity where different people are attending in order to get additional knowledge.
Another very interesting type of educational religious program is AWANA, which is also can be called as a type of boys and girls club. AWANA is the Bible based weekly program for boys and girls of the age from three to seventeen years old. It was originated in the USA, but now it is world-wide known and is very popular.

The name of AWANA is made from the first letters of initial words stated in the second Message to Timothy, which are: "Approved Workmen Are Not Ashamed".
