Added: 11/26/2005

There's no better way to experience the culture of a country than by spending time with its people and passing on what you know. A variety of teaching abroad programs abound for those individuals interested in bringing their linguistic, communicative and cultural skills and efficiencies abroad. While some programs require formal teaching experience, the majority of teach abroad programs do not.

If you became a teacher, it's probably because of your experiences in the classroom. Maybe you found inspiration in great teachers or simply your own love of learning. With a career in school teaching, you'll be able to share that love and pass along the skills and knowledge kids need to get a start in life.  Elementary, middle, and high school teachers work in public or private schools, preparing children for the work world or college. They also try to inspire a lifelong love of learning in their students. But teacher can also be inspired to travel around the world, teaching abroad.

A variety of teaching abroad programs abound for those individuals, interested in bringing their linguistic, communicative and cultural skills and efficiencies abroad. While some programs require formal teaching experience, the majority of teach abroad programs do not.

Many teach abroad programs focus on English Language training. TEFL Programs  or Teaching English as a Foreign Language usually involve teaching English to people in their country of origin. TESL Programs  or Teaching English as a Second Language typically entails teaching English (in English-speaking countries) to immigrants or to people, for whom English is not their native language.

As well, there are lots of incredible opportunities, in general, to go abroad and share educational experiences. Teaching English may not be a specific focus; instead, you might volunteer in a classroom, orphanage or office. Maybe you have just graduated the school, or maybe you have been out of school for years or decades. Either way, when you decide to share your abilities and insights through a teaching abroad program, you can undoubtedly make an impact and touch the lives of many people, while staying abroad.

If you meet the criteria of related services, you can register as a teaching or administrative candidate. Criteria for Teaching Candidates Schools routinely recruit American, Australian, British, Canadian, New Zealand and other native English speakers to their staff. They also seek flexible teachers, who can adjust to the frustrations and stimulation of working in another culture. Most contracts are signed for two years. The following factors must be taken into consideration prior to making an application to ECIS:

All candidates are required to have current teaching certification or qualification. As a rule, you will be required to supply (confidential) supportive, supervisory references, one of which must be from your current school director. TEFL/ESL teachers must have a degree in education. Candidates should have a minimum of two years' recent full-time experience within their certified area. All teaching candidates must be fluent in the English language and have experience teaching in this language.

So, if you are patient enough to fulfil all preliminary tasks, you will have the chance to teach abroad in the place you like.
