Inexpensive and reliable express busses and trains provide a fast and comfortable service around the island. If you visit several places during your Taiwan holidays, you will notice that many regions are very different, almost opposite to each other.
The highlight of central Thailand is Taichung, the third largest city in Taiwan and the destination with the best climate on the island. Taichung offers much to see and do, but its most popular attraction among foreigners is the Martyrs' Shrine. Two bronze lions guard the shrine, which was built to commemorate seventy two Chinese, who were beheaded in 1911 by the Manchu court on the eve of the Republic's revolution. Some people say that the Taichung shrine is more famed than the shrines in Taipei or Hualien.
Taiwan holidays in the eastern part of the country are a visit to the island's cultural epicenter with bright celebrations and joyful festivals. One of the most interesting places that highlights the lifestyle and customs of Eastern Taiwan is Suao with its fishermen's wharf, antique boats and shouting fishmongers.
If you want to experience indigenous Taiwan, visit the Orchid Island, located sixty kilometers east of Taiwan's southern tip. The island is home to Yamis, one of Taiwan's indigenous tribes, who lead simple lives, eat the gifts of the sea and some fruit, growing on the island, and celebrate a fishing season with the parades of new boats.
Many travelers spend Taiwan holidays in Kaohsiung, the second largest city on the island. Short or long holidays, visitors always ascend the Shou Shan Mountain or Longevity Mountain Park as locals call it. Atop the mountain, there is the Martyrs' Shrine as well as a myriad of other temples, pavilions, historical monuments and terraces.
The northern region of Taiwan is the most scenic, most attractive and most fascinating region. It has everything: marvelous attractions and temples, beautiful mountains and waterfalls, beaches and volcanic remnants, almost antique villages and paddy fields. The main attraction of the region is the Window of China, situated south of Taipei.
The Window of China is a miniature reproduction of mainland China and Taiwan. Totally, there are one hundred and thirty buildings on a 1:25 scale, and to make it realistic, fifty thousand miniature individuals occupy these tiny buildings. Recently, a new section has been added, highlighting prominent buildings from all over the world.
The Window on China is one of the most remarkable attractions of Taiwan, and one of the best places to explore different peculiarities of Chinese architecture due to the miniature size of buildings. Restaurants are available here and visitors can also drop in the Taiwan Folk Arts Theater next to this open museum.
