Switzerland Skiing Is The Best Way To Enjoy Your Winter Vacation

Added: 01/17/2006

If you consider yourself a great skier, skiing in Switzerland is something you should experience by all means. It is here you?ll find world-class ski resorts, great ski lifts, and the best restaurants and hotels in Europe. Dining and wining are great experience, offering the best of the Swiss cuisine. Whenever you want to indulge in small pleasures of life, and enjoy the greatest adventure of your life, Switzerland skiing is the best destination choice.

For most tourists, Switzerland skiing is frequently associated with the luxurious ski resorts and plentiful outdoor activities. The country is home to a great number of ski resorts, many of them rating with the top destinations of skiers in Europe. But, unlike the resorts of France that have been built on purpose, Swiss ski resorts can be found around mountain villages, offering spectacular scenery and a traditional atmosphere to enjoy the best Switzerland skiing opportunities.

Those having experienced Switzerland skiing at least once must have heard of St. Moritz, the most prominent ski resort in the country, also known as the host of Olympic Games in 1928 and 1948. It is glamorous and extremely expensive.

Five main areas within the resort, including Corvatsch, Corviglia, Diavolezza, Lagalb, and Furtschellas, offer adventurous skiing holidays.

For skiers, giving preference to suburban areas, Celerina is a great alternative to the urban St. Moritz. Its atmosphere is more relaxing, quiet and calm. Intermediates are offered the 6km long Hahensee, running from Corvatsch to St. Moritz Bad, while the advanced skiers can enjoy the runs at Diavolezza and Lagalb. The most famous off-snow activity of St. Moritz is the world-known Cresta Run, which is still unavailable to women. World-class restaurants and hotels are regarded as a major attraction here.

Saas Fee, belonging to Swiss ski resorts, doesn't enjoy such a great popularity as Zermatt or St. Moritz. However, it offers high quality attractions, which are highly competitive with those of the top resorts of the country. This car-free resort is designed in traditional style, providing boarders and skiers with everything they require.

Saas Fee is a resort friendly place to all levels of skiers, offering runs for everyone. The majority of beginner slopes can be found directly in the village, while more difficult ski runs are located 2500 meters above sea level. Advanced skiers are offered off-piste skiing, like the FIS piste, running down to the Plattjen run.

Located in the Valais canton, Saas Fee is often compared to its neighbor Zermatt. Indeed, both resorts have much in common: they are car-free, and, hence, more friendly. As well as in Zermatt, ski season in Saas Fee is somewhat longer as compared to other Swiss ski resorts.

Engelberg is seen as a great option for family-oriented Switzerland skiing. Despite the fact that the skiing may be here not as extensive as some other resorts can offer, Engelberg boasts spectacular off-piste for experienced skiers and good opportunities for beginners and intermediates. There is also a number of excellent facilities for children, including 2.5 km toboggan run, a 25 m indoor swimming pool, a revolving cable car, and a snow amusement park.

Engelberg's architecture is a combination of modern buildings and XIX century constructions. Bars, nightclubs, and restaurants abound, making the resort popular with many non-skiers. In and around the village there are various sights, the most popular of which are the Snow Cheese Factory, located within the monastery, and the Valley Museum, providing deep insight into the history and life of the Alpine valleys.
