However, once the evening heats up, nobody seems to notice the subtleties, instead patrons skip straight to the bar for strong top-shelf cocktails and then off to an impromptu - but fully legal - dance floor sandwiched between banquettes. A lower-level bar provides a touch of red and a little peace and quiet. You'll want to reserve a banquette on weekend nights. It's best to have a table, but if you don't you'll still have fun. The space is one of the nicest.
There's a bit of a boys' club feeling about the posh space of the Marquee, designed by the big-name architectural firm of Philip Johnson and Alan Ritchie. A glass-bead chandelier lights up the dramatic main room, which is accented by dark, polished wood on all sides and sprawling banquette seating. At the back, a pyramid-like staircase leads to a soundproof, glassed-in, second-floor lounge overlooking the vaulted main room.
Like most hot places, you must fall in to one of a select number of categories to get in without waiting, you must be A-List, female with a bunch of attractive female friends in tow or you must know people.

Even in the middle of the week the floor is packed with beautiful people dancing to music by a great DJ, and you are sure to see celebrities - and they aren't there only on Saturday nights. Wednesdays feature a slightly dressed-down rock-and-roll party. DJs include Language from Negro Clash, Leo Fitzpatrick and Stretch Armstrong. On a Friday night Marquee club in New York is where the world should be.
The DJ on the first floor is beautiful. He plays the best in House music. There?s also a drummer there on Friday, who is richly entertaining. The Bartender at the back bar with the wild hair, is fast, efficient and accurate. It gets extremely crowded at Marquee, but the place is so hot you don't even care.
Marquee club in New York City is an amazing spot and still the best. It's just pure energy and excitement in that place. Don't say Marquee is bad just because you couldn't get in... You know you wouldn't have if you got past the velvet rope. Show up with fashionable friends in tow -everyone in the youngish crowd seems to know each other. Marquee is truly the place to be.
