Should there be a certain style of the cottage bedroom furniture?

Cottage style furniture has become really popular in the recent years. Many furniture producers call some of their furniture brands and lines "cottage style". Many of us would like to have cottage bedroom furniture in our city apartment bedroom. But who can give a truthful definition of what it really is, a description that will leave no doubts? Probably no one.

To begin with let's figure out that cottage bedroom furniture or just cottage furniture means in fact two different things. The first is cottage style bedroom furniture. Here the main word is "style", a cottage-like style. The second is the way that cottages for rent or any other cottages  including of course bedrooms are being furnished.

You can furnish a cottage bedroom in any style you like. Those cottages for rent can be furnished in any style from Victorian (especially if it's a building of the same epoch renovated) to modern. Still there's a furniture style we are used to call cottage style. So what is it like?

What is a cottage itself basically? A vacation house. A family can own it or rent it, anyway most of people don't leave in a country/beach/mountain cottage the whole year round. So there arrives all of your "retired" from your main apartment furniture. This is what the situation is mostly like when speaking of a cottage of your own. So the cottage bedroom furniture is your city-apartment ex-furniture. Even if you buy furniture for your cottage it won't probably be too expensive. So features of cottage style furniture - at first, it may have a shabby look (though it may not be really years old), then it's mixed because it's gathered from all of your friends and relatives, and finally it's very often hand-made or a little bit let's call it restored. The funny thing is that this casual country furniture style turns to be so cozy and sympathetic that it's has become extremely popular in the recent year and people decorate with the cottage style furniture their city apartment.

But returning to genuine cottage bedroom furniture, let's start with the surroundings. What do we got here, in the classical cottage bedroom? The floor is supposed to be wooden, maybe painted or polished but not too much. Carpets? Well, not exactly. Persian carpets, covering floor from wall to wall are a little bit too much for a country cottage, but some nice braided rugs or matting will do just fine. Windows of a cottage bedroom are supposed to let much light into the room. Window drapes shouldn't be of a dark color or heavy material. Flax and cotton of some light pastel colors, probably with some flower patterns is exactly what we need. Valances and laces are the details that will give a cozy look.

The cottage bedroom furniture should be wooden. One who decorates a cottage should forget about metal and plastic at all. One who owns cottages for rent has a particular interest to create there cozy, welcoming and warm atmosphere so all the guests would like come back for the vacations. By the way light sorts of wood like pine tree for example will suit to a cottage bedroom better than all others.

The bed itself, the bedside-tables, the wardrobe, the bureau should be of some classical forms and natural colors of the polished wood. Cottage bedroom furniture likes slipcovers, coverlets, throws a lot. But as in any other decoration style there should be some unity in colors and patterns. The prints on the coverlet and curtains may not probably repeat each other, yet they should fight.

These are some general features of a so-called cottage style. In fact there's no certain cottage bedroom furniture, it's just some cozy, nice, a little-bit old-fashioned or casual furniture combined and decorated with love and a bit of artistic talent. Yet many furniture producers call their products cottage style furniture so one who decides to furnish a cottage will have no problems with the diversity of choice.
