Sheraton Resorts offer a wide variety of on-site activities for the entire family, ranging from golf and tennis to snow-skiing, water sports, pampering spas and more. While staying at a Sheraton, guests can ski the slopes of Colorado, cruise the Nile, enjoy a challenge on the Arizona links or ride the waves of Australia's Great Barrier Reef. Kids stay free at Sheraton Hotels & Resorts around the world as long as they are staying with an adult and using existing bedding. And most Sheratons offer the convenience of babysitting services, either through hotel staff or a bonded service, giving parents the freedom to enjoy a little time on their own.
The origins of Sheraton Hotels date back to 1937 when the company's founders, Ernest Henderson and Robert Moore, acquired their first hotel in Springfield, Massachusetts. Within two years, they purchased three hotels in Boston and soon expanded their holdings to include properties from Maine to Florida. At the end of its first decade, Sheraton Hotels had proven to be so popular and had become such a relied-upon brand that it was the first hotel chain to be listed on the New York Stock Exchange. Sheraton expanded internationally in 1949 with the purchase of two Canadian hotel chains and grew rapidly around the world. The 1960s saw the first Sheraton hotels in Latin America and the Middle East and, by 1965, the 100th Sheraton opened its doors. Sheraton reached a milestone in 1985 as the first international hotel chain to operate a hotel in China.
In April of 1995, Sheraton introduced Four Points by Sheraton Hotels, a new, mid-scale hotel brand offering a full-service hotel experience at a competitive price. In 1998, Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide, Inc. acquired Sheraton. One of the leading hotel companies in the world, Starwood's other brands include Westin Hotels & Resorts, Four Points by Sheraton Hotels, St. Regis Hotels & Resorts, The Luxury Collection and W Hotels. As the largest of the Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide, Inc. brands, Sheraton Hotels are uniquely qualified to make you feel right at home, whether you're staying for business or leisure. With 400 hotels and resorts in over 70 countries, Sheraton enjoys outstanding consumer recognition, offering, above all, special Airport Programs for business travelers and providing a free stay for kids.
