It's another great season at the Rondo Theatre and it's one of the best small theatres in the country. Suburbs and towns in the same area as Rondo Theatre include Aeroglen, Brinsmead, Bungalow, Cairns, Earlville, Kanimbla, Manoora, Parramatta Park, Redlynch, Stratford, Westcourt, and more.
From it's foundation in 1954, the Cairns Little Theatre has continuously presented an annual program of plays in Community Halls, the Hartley Street Theatre and the Cairns Civic Theatre until the Rondo Theatre was commissioned in 1983. A Season of Plays at the Rondo has become established as a regular feature of the theatre calendar in North Queensland. In 1988 the Organization became incorporated. The hall adjoining the theatre was subsequently purchased, and in 2001 quite a bit of money was spent on the refurbishing the theatre and also to create a foyer for the Rondo Theatre. New air-conditioners have since been installed in the theatre, in the "Green Room" and in the new room on the west side of the theatre. The 200 seat space is now one of the most comfortable and versatile small venues in Australia.
The 2006 Theatre Season will include five main stream plays. Open auditions are held approximately eight weeks before each production and are advertised in the press and on the radio. The Rondo Theatre Company is organizing some theatre workshops for adults, and we are working with Bath Film Festival to present a short film season.
On at Rondo Theatre: "You Heard It Here First" - a selection of readings by the most brilliant original writers from amongst this year's students on the Creative Writing MA at Bath Spa University. "Mo Hayder: Fine Fiction" - local author and international bestseller Mo Hayder, author of Birdman and The Treatment, talks about her critically acclaimed novel Tokyo, and about experimentation, genre and the development of her work. "The Steppe Brothers" - medieval traveling theatre troupe The Steppe Brothers are down on their luck. Mother is dead, a chicken is missing and the finger of accusation is pointing their way.
Caught up in the plotting between two duplicitous damsels with rival claims to the throne, can the onstage heroes save the day? "The Librarians' Joke" - The Little Wonder librarians take you on a magical journey through tangled diagrams, book bar charts and flying pages. Using an innovative live soundtrack, striking visual images and audience interaction, Little Wonder creates a witty and beautiful story of a love left unspoken for too long.
So if you've never been to The Rondo before - make your resolution to give it a try.
