What seems to be romantic to one person is not necessarily romantic to another one. When planning your once-in-a-lifetime honeymoon it is important to choose a vacation destination and activities that you both will enjoy. Your honeymoon is the perfect time to try something you have always dreamed about. You will have more time and the perfect person to spend this particular vacation with.
Exotic Honeymoon Destinations. Take a bath under the night sky in a sunken marble bathtub at Amandari in Bali. Enjoy a romantic picnic on a secluded beach on Bedarra Island in Australia. Rent a villa with a private pool overlooking New Zealand's Bay of Islands at Eagles Nest. Spend your days relaxing in a honeymoon bure with a plunge pool and a large terrace on Yasawa Island, Fiji.
Active Honeymoon Ideas. Sometimes the best way to make your vacation seem longer is to try new activities, such as scuba diving, mountain biking and surfing. For scuba diving and snorkeling, few places are better than the Great Barrier Reef in Australia. At Lizard Island you can take introductory scuba diving courses, or try tennis, snorkeling, glass bottom boat rides and sport fishing. Closer to home, great places to scuba dive include Maui, Virgin Gorda and the Bahamas.
If you are looking for something a little adventureous on your honeymoon, but you still want to be able to sit on the beach when you feel like it, then try Lizard Island. Lizard Island has fabulous suites, most of which have amazing views on the water. The island has a wide range of activities like tennis, snorkeling, glass bottom boat rides and sport fishing. However, the most impressive activity on the island is diving. Whether you are an experienced diver or just want to take your first dive, there are few places better than Lizard Island. Try the introduction to scuba diving course or dive the world famous Cod Hole.
Covered with sandy beaches and set on Australia's Great Barrier Reef, Lizard Island is the finest place to visit. Lizard Island is the most northerly on the Great Barrier Reef Islands (besides Thursday Island at the very top). It is a National Park covering 1000 hectares with 24 sandy beaches and bays with excellent snorkeling, home of the giant clams and coral gardens. The highest peak is Cook's Look at 359 metres. Captain Cook, endeavoring to get out of the Reef area after hitting a Reef further south and laying over in what is now Cooktown, discovered and named Lizard Island. From Cook's Look, the story goes, he was able to find a suitable opening and return to the open seas.
The resort on the Island is called Lizard Island Lodge, and is one of the more exclusive resorts in Australia. Its reputation draws both international and domestic travelers including executives, royalty, and just plain people whose priority is to stay at this unique place.
Guests relax on a secluded beach or lounge by the freshwater swimming pool after getting pampered at the Pavilion Day Spa. The hotel can prepare picnic hampers for beachside lunches, provide snorkeling equipment, catamarans, paddle skis and sail boards, and organize glass bottom boat trips. Lizard Island offers scuba diving on its own coral reefs and on outer reef dive sites, including the famous Cod Hole. Lizard's dive boat, the MV Serranidae, provides full day diving excursions.
The cuisine at the hotel incorporates the finest local produce with emphasis on seafood and tropical fruits. If you have special dietary needs, you can let the resort know in advance. Guests dine on the open verandah restaurant overlooking the beach in an intimate setting. The resort has 40 rooms, some located in tropical gardens. 18 rooms are on the beach with direct access to Anchor Bay and spectacular views out to the Coral Sea.
