Pool assistant ? a job for those who feel at home in the water

There aren't too many aquatics and beach jobs. What are they let's see - lifeguard, instructor, assistant and probably one can remember a couple more if he/she tries. Yet these all are quite serious jobs because they are dealing with people health and safety. Of course aquatics isn't rock climbing for example but yet all those pool assistant are very important people - they want let you drawn or hurt yourself in the water.

Many people don't see their vacations without going in for aquatics. Well some of them don't even need vacations to engage in it. Especially nowadays people like the idea of diving and they usually like to get more than only an idea of it. So they study scuba diving both in classes and in practice, get some training in the swimming pool, then get their certificate and go enjoying scuba diving in the sea at the resorts.

But there always must be people who'd teach them all that stuff - instructors and pool assistants.

Everyone can achieve a job of a pool assistant, well, everyone who can swim, can dive and wants to teach others.

Of course they have to study too. In general the training course for a future pool assistant consists of three basic parts - class studies, pool studies, open air studies. Only after one passes through these tree stages - he/she'll be able to get a job of a pool assistant. Sometimes they let the students who haven't passed yet the open air training assist - this is called a pool assistant trainee.

Almost everywhere to get this job you'll have to show them your first aid certificate.

So what are the duties you'll have at your new job? Of course there'll be an aquatics assistant supervisor - an instructor who's mainly responsible for most of the thing and for the students. Yet you'll be kept busy either. At the moment we're speaking about scuba diving assistant that means that in the pool you and your students will be dealing with some equipment which is a little bit more sophisticated than a ring-buoy. And so the number one duty of a pool assistant is the equipment. He/she has to get to the pool some time before a class starts and assemble all the necessary gear. It can take less or more time according to some points like the number of students, your experience and skills, the instructors demands. When the students arrive an assistant has to help them with the equipment, packing it, unpacking, adjusting for each single one of them and so on. He/she has to help them with returning all the rental equipment after the classes and it's an assistant duty to check if everything is in order. If any of equipment needs repairing after have been used you'll have to notify about it.

Number two point of a pool assistant duties is to listen and to do what an instructor tells him/her too. And of course it's your job to watch after the safety in the pool.

But a job of a pool assistant doesn't mean only assisting in teaching diving. Aquatics includes many types of activities. Basically an assistant job might mean that you'll have to look after the pool and those who're in it. In this position your number one duty will be providing safety in the swimming pool though you may be also occupied as a swimming and other aquatics disciplines instructor. Still this requires a list of certificates including medical first aid that's been already mentioned, plus various instructor and lifeguard certificates.

Sometimes this job includes also assistance in planning the activities and participating in them as an enthusiastic lead showing your good mood and energy.

The details may vary according to the peculiarities of each single place of work. Yet everywhere the basic duties of an a pool assistant are - to look after the equipment and to provide the safety.
