Paramount's Kings Island is located not far from Cincinnati, Ohio, USA. This famous theme park opened in 1972 was purchased by Paramount Parks in 1993. Paramount Parks is a leading developer and operator of world-class theme parks entertaining more than 13 million guests annually. The company currently owns and operates five of the most popular theme parks in North America including Paramount's Kings Island.
Paramount Kings Island has got a great number of various rides. Unchained in 1979, the Beast is still the longest wooden coaster in the world with a track length of above 2.2 km. The King Cobra, the first stand-up looping coaster in North America, took its first riders in 1984. By 1987, a new steel coaster named Vortex broke a record by turning its passengers upside-down 6 times.
1989 brought Water Works, their own water park to Kings Island. Opened in 1991, Adventure Express takes guests on a journey through the jungle complete with themed tunnels. In 1992, one of the most original rides in the Park opened called Phantom Theatre. As guests make their way through different areas of a 1920's theatre, they see the spirits of past performers preparing for a final show. Children also found a new roller coaster just for them - Scooby Zoom.
Top Gun,a new suspended coaster flying through the tree tops, marked the beginning of the Paramount era in 1993. 1994 brought the second movie-themed attraction to the Park - Days of Thunder. Featuring a wide variety of activities aimed at children Splat City made its debut in 1995. The big highlight is the Green Slime Zone, a huge water maze.
Flight of Fear, the world's first linear induction coaster, was put into operation in 1996. In 1997, the water park received a huge wave pool (Surfside Bay), a large sunning area and a new children's play area (Buccaneer Island). Water Works expanded again in 1998, with the Wipeout Beach. This surfing attraction offers a much wilder wave experience than the gentle Surfside Bay.
1998 also saw a major upgrade to Hanna Barbera Land. One new ride, Scooby's Ghoster Coaster, became the first children's suspended coaster. It joined Yogi's Sky Tours and Atom Ant's Airways, the other 2 new rides. In 1999, 2 new thrill rides arrived in the Paramount Action Zone. Face/Off became the Midwest's only 5-g, face to face inverted roller coaster while Drop Zone Stunt Tower was the world's tallest gyro drop.
Son of Beast, the world's tallest and fastest wooden roller coaster, was unleashed in 1999 too. This ride features the world's first wooden loop. At last, Kings Island has recently presented the world's largest collection of Nickelodeon-inspired rides and attractions.
Paramount's Kings Island has had a very colorful history. Kings Island entertains more than 3 million guests annually and has got fun-filled entertainment, movie-themed attractions and a wide range of shopping and dining options. The park was Amusement Today Golden Ticket award winner 2001, 2002, 2003, 2004 and 2005. Paramount's Kings Island is ranked one of the best kid's areas in the world.
