The Outward Bound in UK has used the mountains and sea as classrooms to help young people learn in order to master crucial skills such as courage, endeavor and teamwork. Confidence and the ability to develop transferable skills is the key to enabling young people to fulfill their potential in this fast moving, highly competitive environment.
Young people emerge from such experiences with improved communication, teamwork, leadership skills and greater self-esteem with the confidence to face the challenges that life brings. The Outward Bound in UK has developed a generous grant program that serves about 18,000 young people every year. The Outward Bound in UK offers programs in Scotland (Loch Eil), Wales (Aberdovey), and two centers in England (the Lake District). For over 60 years The Outward Bound Trust has influenced the lives of more than a million young people in those areas. Outward Bound courses range from 1-17 days and include courses for schools, colleges and youth groups which are specifically designed to meet current educational initiatives and curriculum objectives; courses for business - residential and mobile teambuilding and leadership courses for companies wishing to train and develop their employees; multi-activity courses - one, two and three week courses held at Aberdovey, Loch Eil and Ullswater; outdoor skills and qualifications courses that are dedicated to introducing and developing outdoor activity skills leading to National Governing Body Qualifications. Outward Bound also holds global expeditions for groups and individuals which are designed for schools, colleges individuals and youth groups and available in a number of exotic locations. There are opportunities for family adventures. The adventures are held at Aberdovey, Loch Eil and Ullswater and Eskdale under the guidance of Outward Bound Instructors.
The Outward Bound in UK is the global leader in outdoor experiential education. Through safe adventure experiences on mountains and sea, rivers and lakes, young people develop their potential to take on new challenges, work in harmony with others and solve problems for themselves. Outward Bound courses and programs are open to all people regardless of race, religion, color, physical or mental strength, social or educational background in a number of schools worldwide. Outward Bound strives to eliminate fatal or disabling accidents and serious injuries during participation on Outward Bound programs and to reduce the incidence of other injuries, illnesses, near misses or emotional trauma.
