Applied Sociology is a subfield of sociological science concerned with mobilizing scientific procedures and principles that can be applied in problem solving. In the most general sense, Applied Sociology is the use of sociological knowledge, tools and skills to address and resolve social problems. Many applied sociologists are engaged in specific problem resolving in organizational settings, while others pursue evaluation research.

Created in 1949 under UNESCO, the International Sociological Association, commonly referred to as ISA, is a non-profit body, dedicated to scientific-related purposes in the field of social sciences. Today as ever it is committed to carrying out its mission: to represent sociologists in every field of sociology, irrespective of their ideological opinion, scientific approaches and school of thought. Currently the Association is composed of members from 109 countries worldwide.
