The history of Omnis-online can be traced back to 1979, when it was founded by Paul Wright under the name of Blyth and renamed a few years later. Following the increasing demand for powerful business application development tools, the company released its first product in 1982, a database application tool for the Apple, designed by David Seaman.
During the period of 1983-1984 Omnis 3 was released, recognized as the first cross platform database application tool for both Apple computers and IBM compatibles, while the year 1985 witnessed the release of Omnis 3 Plus, one of the first database generation tools, available for the Apple Macintosh. Two years later Omnis-online released Omnis Quartz - the first database for Microsoft Windows, and in 1985 it produced the first cross platform development tool for applications building under Mac and Windows.
The subsequent years witnessed a number of innovations and developments, such as the introduction of fully integrated development environment, providing access to a number of server databases like Informix, Sybase and Oracle; Omnis Studio, allowing customers to integrate with native and external components; the Omnis Web Client, used for browsing data and applications on the Internet; Omnis Studio for Linux that has made Omnis the first development tool available under Mac, Windows and Linux.
In December, 2000 Omnis-online merged with PICK Systems, becoming thus Raining Data Corporation that specializes in Enterprise Solutions for businesses. The release of Omnis Studio 4 (March 2004) includes support for Java Objects, JDBC, enhanced team development, brand new environment and much more.
Currently, Omnis-online is ranked with the most powerful Rapid Application Development tools, allowing its customers to develop and deploy all types of web-based, enterprise-wide applications for Mac, Linux and Windows for all market sectors. Throughout its history, Omnis has succeeded in achieving a great number of industry's firsts in developing tools, and the company still continues to respond to the constantly changing needs of software developers, as well as the converging worlds of mobile communications and web-based technologies.
