Nigerian embassy - general requirements for application

Tourism is one of the growing sectors the Nigerian economy. The main thrust of Government policy on tourism was to generate foreign exchange earnings, create employment opportunities, promote rural enterprises and national integration among other things.

Nigeria offers a wide variety of tourist attractions such as extended and roomy river and ocean beaches ideal for swimming and other water sports, unique wildlife, vast tracts of unspoiled nature ranging from tropical forest, magnificent waterfalls, some new rapidly growing cities and climatic conditions in some parts particularly conducive to holidaying. Other attractions include traditional ways of life preserved in local customs; rich and varied handicrafts and other colourful products depicting or illustrative of native arts and lifestyle, and the authentic unsophisticated but friendly attitude of many in the Nigerian population.

Before going to Nigeria you should getting ready for a trip. First of all, you should go to Nigerian embassy in your country and find out all information about getting visa. There are different types of Nigeria visas but the most common for touring Nigeria is a single entry tourist visa, which is valid for up to 3 months. A Nigeria visa for overseas passport holders is required when traveling to the country.  In Nigerian embassy you can found out about following types of visas: Visitor, Tourist and Transit Visas, Business/Education, religious Visas, Temporary Work Permit (TWP), Subject To Regularization (STR).

The Federal Democratic Republic of Nigeria has so many High commissions, embassies, consulates and other outlets in all inhabited continents of the world. Foreign nationals can apply for all categories of Nigerian visas through these outlets.

Applying for Nigerian visas may generally take up to 3 working days. However we suggest that you contact the Nigerian embassy or High Commission in your country for more information on localised requirements In order to successfully obtain a visa to visit Nigeria, you should ensure that you meet the requirements of the country's mission in your country.

The general requirements are as follows:
  A passport valid for at least 6 months prior to application; 
  Non-refundable visa application fee (contact Nigeria's mission in your country for actual amount);
  Duly completed application form;
  1-4 passport pictures, depending on type of visa application;
  Evidence of sufficient funds for the period of your stay in Nigeria or proof of other satisfactory arrangements for your support while in the country.

All other information deemed necessary by the visa officer.
