Neon-lit Biloxi Lures Visitors to the Gulf Coast

Added: 04/11/2006

Biloxi is a city located in Harrison County, Mississippi. With the introduction of gambling in the 1990s, Biloxi became an important center for casinos - the seafront is lined with permanently moored casinos, several of which have spawned large hotels on drier land nearby. From car hire to sports-fishing this resort really has a lot to offer. So much to do and see you'll wonder why you didn't book a vacation here a lot sooner!

Mississippi was the 20th state to join the United States of America. The capital city is Jackson, which is also the largest city. The state is bordered by Alabama, Arkansas, Louisiana, and Tennessee. Neon-lit city of Biloxi is a great Mississippi resort along Gulf Coast Mississippi. Sprawling alongside a busy four-lane highway, the resort is near New Orleans and it has sufficient diversity to satisfy local beach poseurs, senior citizens and families alike.

Located in the center of what fisheries biologists term "The Fertile Fisheries Crescent", Biloxi offered some of the finest sports fishing to be found along the entire northern Gulf of Mexico. Spotted sea trout, red drum, Spanish and king mackerel, flounder, snapper, grouper, sharks and more are all available to anglers during the fishing season.

Old Biloxi, starting at the far end of Lameuse Boulevard, consists of narrow streets of stucco'ed buildings, in a tree-shaded tranquility. Across the highway, shrimp and oyster fleets unload their catch at the Small Crafts Harbor. You can rent boats to visit windblown Deer Island, half a mile offshore, or just to go fishing.

A mile west, a glut of the usual shops selling T-shirts, seashells, trinkets and other ephemera marks the approach to the most popular stretch of Harrison County Beach, in front of the Broadwater Resort East. Five miles west of Main Street, the compact white raised cottage of Beauvoir set in beautiful wooded grounds across from the ocean, was the final home of Confederate President Jefferson Davis.

The area's role as a shrine for unrepentant Confederates is typified by "Experiment in Nationalism" - the Civil War museum.  Biloxi has also been home to the Mississippi Sea Wolves, an East Coast Hockey League minor league hockey team.

Biloxi and the surrounding Gulf Coast region was considered a leading gambling center in the Southern United States until many casinos were damaged or destroyed by Hurricane Katrina on August 29, 2005. The hotels and complexes brought millions of dollars in tourism revenue to the city. The more famous casino complexes were the Beau Rivage casino resort, Casino Magic, Grand Casino, Boomtown Casino, and Imperial Palace.

Here in Biloxi you can get any service you need to make your stay enjoyable. If you need a car, car hire Mississippi service is available. Contrary to what most people think, renting a car does not have to cost a fortune. Most car hire agencies have a wide selection of economically priced vehicles and cheap car rentals to choose from. Getting into cheap car hires today is easy. Rates will depend on availability, size and type of car. You can select a particular type of car to narrow your search. You will be expected to pay for any gas, insurance, taxes, or extra equipment.

Overall, Biloxi is a great place to visit, although it's really not a place that's likely to appeal for long to international visitors.

Nevertheless, if you are looking for a short vacation at a resort that's less expensive than Florida, Biloxi is the place.
