Modern guide to luggage accessories

Added: 12/23/2005

If packing is the last thing you want to think about when waiting for your vacation, you may need to update your collection of luggage accessories. There are plenty of them today: hundreds of little gadgets, all designed to make packing a pleasure. Of course, all those hooks and handles cost money, but your comfort is definitely more important when you finally take a break from the fuss of everyday life. So, don't let your luggage spoil the mood you want to bring home from your vacation!

The more people travel, the faster luggage accessories industry is growing.  We have stepped into the XXI century with a wide range of luggage accessories, which absence is hardly imaginable by more and more people when going on vacation.  We are all concerned about our safety and comfort, after all.

People who travel by air are often worried their luggage can be stolen during transportation.  You can make your luggage safer with the help of luggage lock.  However, it sometimes may cause problems.  In some countries, if the X-Ray detector cannot identify the luggage inside customs officials open the bags even if they are to break the lock.

The solution was suggested in the early 1990s when easy-to-break seals were introduced.  This type of lock would cost little money and simply serve as an alarm that the luggage had been opened.  Of course, it offered minimum safety, so in 2003 a new generation of luggage locks was introduced in the United States.  The Travel Sentry Locks keep your luggage safe, but they allow customs officials to open it with the help of special electronic devices.  Just check if the lock you are buying is approved by the customs law in the countries you are planning to visit.

If you are one of those who have hard time struggling to close the suitcase because it is impossible to make the stuff fit otherwise, you might need to learn how to pack in a more organized way.  If it sounds unworkable to you consider using some of convenient accessory cases and small bags designed specially for all the small belongings you can't travel without: jewellery, make-up, toiletry and some more.  These luggage accessories don't break, they open only when you want them to and are usually waterproof -- definitely a good value for the money.

So, now that you have packed everything you need, you have to carry it all somehow, and this brings up another set of problems: the luggage is too heavy and the bags are very inconvenient to carry.  The luggage handles were designed in the 1980s and since then have been widely used to reduce physical stress and fatigue for people who have to carry heavy bags.  With the help of these luggage accessories you don't need to make so much effort to pull your luggage, plus they allow much more comfortable postures for your back and arms.

If you need to carry too many bags sometimes there is no need to hire a porter if you have a small but very practical suitcase hook.  You can attach it to any rolling suitcase, and it will hold your carry-on bag all the way through the airport.  If your bags are far too many to get along with the hook, consider using a collapsible canvas carry cart, which can handle that burden of luggage.

And finally, forget this annoying bag-hunting at the luggage carousel in airports.  The identification of your bag can be made much easier with the help of various tags, which you can attach to your bag with a plastic buckle.  It's all your choice: from the flag of your country to the symbol representing your favourite sports.  Still, the fastest and most convenient way to mark your bag is use a handle wrap.  Just wrap that bright colored thing around the handle and write your name on it with any permanent marker.  You will never take the wrong bag anymore!
