McDonalds fast food is an immensely successful enterprise. It can be found in 122 countries of the world, though its home country is, of course, America, where it appeared in 1948. In 1957 there were 37 McDonalds already and in 1959 their number reached over 100.
Following fast food history we can observe in one way or another that this industry is closely interlinked with McDonalds, the most successful and wide-spread enterprise. Today 160,000 fast food enterprises serve nearly 50 million people in America, not to mention European and Asian countries. McDonalds enriched its menu from hamburgers, cheeseburgers, fries and beverages and added new items to it.
McDonalds fast food includes sandwiches, hamburgers, fish and chips, fried chicken, chicken nuggets, pizza, French fries, salads, ice-cream, shakes and beverages. There are indoor and outdoor seating areas where you can enjoy your meals. Fast food can be eaten without cutlery. McDonalds has also a "drive-thru" service, which is very convenient for cars drivers as they can order food without getting out of their cars and wasting time. McDonalds fast food is served in plastic wrappings, so that you don't have to pay much.
Fast food companies are often accused of negative impact on people's health. Fast food is prepared in an industrial fashion and the cooking method is the main reason of unhealthy food. Fast food contains more calories and fat and even glysemic load. In addition it may contain various chemical agents, which may cause irreparable harm to people's health. The experiment showed the following results: if a person consumes fast food only and stops all exercise during one month period, his health will be negatively affected and he will gain weight. In the early years of the XXI century the problem stopped being aesthetic only and became acute. Taking into consideration the fact that two thirds of Americans suffer from obesity, a new holistic approach is needed to be taken to the fast food problem. Fast food chains begin to include healthier products in their menu. Their response to the accusation is salads and fresh fruit.
In summer 2004 a maintenance worker blamed McDonalds, Kentucky Fried Chicken and Burger King for his health problems. The man had problems with his weight. As he said he was never explained what he was eating. The lawyers are of the opinion that fast food industry is obliged to warn their clients of the danger of eating their food. But, of course, no company will agree to suffer damage and lose clients.
Though it is often criticized for being unhealthy, contributing to the obesity and reducing the variety of local cuisines, McDonalds fast food is popular and successful because of its convenience. Long boring hours spent on the kitchen belong to the past.
McDonalds has a great number of franchisees - fast food restaurants, which use its brand-name. Since the name of McDonalds is world known such money investment is really safe and profitable. Fast food and franchise have become synonyms because of McDonalds. But it is fair to admit that not all the fast food restaurants are franchises and vice versa. There are a lot of places, where Chinese cuisine is served, which is not considered to be fast food.
