Pepperdine University was established by George Pepperdine in 1937 as George Pepperdine College. For almost thirty years, George Pepperdine College was a small undergraduate school situated in South Los Angeles. Later on, in 1971, Pepperdine obtained university status when a school of law was added and the business and education departments became separate schools. In 1972, through the generosity of Frank Roger Seaver, Pepperdine opened a new 830 acre (3.4 square kilometers) campus in the Malibu area. Three years later, the undergraduate program was named the Seaver College in honor of the Seavers. During '80s, Pepperdine became one of the United States' leading centres of conservative politics captivating many conservative-leaning professors from nearby. But everything wasn't so smooth, brushfire threatened the campus, but fortunately, almost all structures were saved from destruction.
One college and four schools make up Pepperdine's academic departments. The Seaver College is the University's residential college of letters, arts and sciences. The American fifth largest graduate business school accredited by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB International) is the Graziadio School of Business and Management. Master's and doctoral programs in education and psychology based on the theoretical understanding of service through leadership are offered in the Graduate School of Education and Psychology. Here teachers are prepared to serve as leaders in technological innovation and collaborative learning environments, also as train administrators providing change in business, health and other social service professions.
The School of Law having a values-centred context provides an excellent legal education and is fully approved by the American Bar Association and holds membership in the Association of American Law Schools. The School of Public Policy prepares graduates for careers as leaders of family, religious organizations, volunteer associations, local and regional government, and non-profit organizations.
MBA in Finance mostly concerns the Graziadio School of Business and Management. It was founded in 1969 and is named for the co-founder, chairman and CEO of Imperial Bancorp, George L. Graziadio. The School enrolls approximately 2,400 students in its full- and part-time programs. Its main goal is to grow values-centred leaders for contemporary business practice.
In the Graziadio School one may be granted with such degrees as the Master of Business Administration (MBA) for full-time students, working professionals, and high-level executives; the International Master of Business Administration (IMBA); the Master of Science in Organization Development (MSOD); and the undergraduate Bachelor of Science in Management (BSM). The Graziadio School also offers a bachelor's completion degree program, a master's in Organization Development program, and non-degree executive education programs designed to address an organization's specific learning needs.
Of course, we will stick to the tradition of ranking and state that in global rankings 2006 the Pepperdine University is placed on the 95th position. Pepperdine's Graziadio School of Business and Management was among the top schools ranked in the Financial Times and Business Week for its Executive MBA program.
