Marmaris is the place where dreams come true. With its splendid natural ambiance, lovely countryside and Turkish Night, Marmaris stands for one of the most refined resorts in Turkey. The Mediterranean life style, relaxing and easy, makes travelers come again and again. Some visitors come here and find out that this is exactly the place where they want to live the rest of their life.
What do visitors like in Marmaris? Marmaris is built around an amazing natural bay at the foot of majestic mountains, covered by pine trees, at the meeting place of the Aegean Sea and the Mediterranean Sea. The total area of forestry that spreads off the Marmaris's borders is sixty five thousand hectares. Unspoiled villages, the fishermen's countryside, inland properties, used for vineyarding and farming, create a unique natural and made-by-hand landscape.
The resort provides wonderful opportunities for water sports, sailing, relaxing in the sun as well as visiting numerous nightspots and restaurants in the town. The restaurants serve healthy and fresh food as most of the ingredients are locally produced and sold in farmers markets.
Turkish Night... a memorable experience! Belly Dancers, Turkish Food and Wine, Turkish folkdance and music, tons of smiles, laugh and audience participation. Marmaris offers these events in several venues, while one of the most recommended is "Kervansaray" that features some of the most professional and best show groups in the city. The show commonly starts at 8.30 p. m. and ends at midnight.
Many beaches of Marmaris are beaches as anywhere else. However, one beach makes an exception. This is the Cleopatra Island beach, where the sand is believed to be the best in the world. The sand here has evolved from seashells and has a wonderful mild and tender texture. It is said that this organic sand was brought by ships from the Red Sea especially for Cleopatra. Each grain of sand is a perfect sphere, and for the reason of sand's uniqueness, the government protects the beach to prevent any sand being removed from it.
Marmaris still retains its ancient past and suggest visitors learning its remarkable heritage. According to the historian Herodotus, there has been a castle in Marmaris since 3000 BC. During the Hellenistic Age, the area was invaded by Alexander the Great and the castle was besieged. Later, the castle was rebuilt by Kanuni Sultan Suleyman in 1522, when he invaded Rhodes. The restoration of the castle started in 1979, and after it the castle was converted into museum. There are seven galleries, of which the largest is used as an exhibition hall. The courtyard of the castle is always decorated with seasonal flowers.
Why are people attracted to live here? The reasons are actually many. A wonderful climate and sun all the year round, a relaxing Mediterranean life style, many opportunities for business, healthy food and living in one of the clearest coasts of the Mediterranean, a lot of recreational activities, great affordability of real estate. These are only some factors, which attract people from around the globe to live in this particular area.
The most convenient way to reach Marmaris is first by air to Istanbul's Ataturk Airport and then from the airport's domestic terminal to Dalaman Airport, the nearest to Marmaris. From there, Marmaris is within an easy reach by bus or car.
