Today students have a number of options for learning languages abroad and this is the best way tobecome really skilled in mastering a foreign language  because it is a necessary want nowadays. As  to the French language, for instance, you can learn it abroad in any Francophone country,  where the language of instruction is French - in France, Francophone Africa, and Francophone Canada.

The Brown-in-France program provides participants with a choice of several French universities to study at- in Paris at the Universites de Paris 1, 3, 4 (la Sorbonne), 6, 8 and the Institut d'Etudes Politiques (Sciences Po); in Lyon at the Universite Lumiere Lyon 2.
In addition, Brown program students may participate in the Internships in Francophone Europe program. The Brown program maintains an office in Paris with a full-time administrative staff member, a Resident Faculty Director from Brown's faculty, and several tutors who assist students learning languages abroad. Paris I emphasizes the social sciences; Paris III - modern languages and literature, cinema and theater; Paris IV - classical studies; Paris VI - the sciences; and Paris VIII - social sciences, literature, economics, and women's studies.

The Institut d'Etudes Politiques is one of the best known European centers for studying contemporary history and politics. The year-long certificate program is intended for exceptional students with a strong background in European politics and history. All students interested in studying at Sciences Po are requested to take an entrance exam administered at Brown. A full range of courses is available in Lyon. Participation in the one-semester Internships in Francophone Europe program is also possible.

Students may enjoy learning languages abroad for a whole year, the first semester, or for the second semester only in both Paris and Lyon. All students have a month-long orientation in Paris in September (or in January for the second semester). Abroad language learning and cultural activities are combined in this orientation to prepare students for their entry into the French university classroom and for life in France. Students then enroll in five courses directly in the university which best meets their academic needs. It is possible to combine study at two Paris institutions at the same time.
