Lake Garda Watersports and Recreation Activities

Added: 06/23/2006

The largest and one of the loveliest lakes in the Sirmione region, Lake Garda laps against the plains of the Veneto and Lombardy, becoming fjordlike and moody in the north. Its shores are fragrant with flowery gardens, forests of cypress and pines and groves of lemons and olives - the landscape that has always attracted many poets and artists, among them Gabriele d'Annunzio, whose villa close to Gardone is recognized currently as one of the major attractions in the area. It is the perfect springboard for enjoying the plethora of Lake Garda watersports.

Ranked with the most beautiful lakes in Italy, Lake Garda is frequented by many recreationists and visitors alike who come to enjoy the lush greenery and flowery gardens of the area, as well as take advantage of its hot springs still gushing forth at Sirmione. However, most tourists come to experience numerous Lake Garda watersports, including swimming, windsurfing, kayaking and canoeing available at many of the lakeside resorts in this area. One of the most popular regions, Sirmione is home to some of the most popular resorts in Garda known for their charm and relaxing atmosphere.

Here you'll be offered to stroll, swim in the cleanest waters warmed by underwater hot springs and relax on sunny terraces. The major attraction here is the lake itself, with the water warm enough for swimming from May through October and windsurfing all-the-year-round. Some of the greatest facilities for Lake Garda watersports are offered at Gardone Riviera and Riva del Garda, two resorts enjoying wide popularity with the visitors from all over the world. Here you'll be able to rent pedal boats or rowboats for about $9 per hour from March to October. More adventurous sportsmen are welcome to the Nautic Club Riva where you'll be offered equipment for $45 per day. Also available are weekly packages and lessons.

Alternatively, you may consider Limone sul Garda, a beautiful resort nestled between the mountains and the lake some 6 miles south of Riva del Garda. Regardless of huge crowds of travelers coming down through the mountains from Germany and Austria, it is a wonderful place to spend your vacation with more moderately priced hotels as compared to those available in Riva del Garda.

Among the greatest attractions of the area are the multitude of Lake Garda watersports and recreational activities that are available at the lake. Thus, visitors can choose from diving, windsurfing, swimming, boat rides and many more. Lake Garda is the ideal option for those who want to have fun in the water and sun in spectacular surroundings.

In addition to Lake Garda watersports, visitors can take advantage of numerous attractions available all-the-year-round. One of the most popular sights, Villa Vittoriale was home of Gabriele d'Annunzio, the military adventurer and poet. Today it houses a variety of furnishings from the 1930s and has a number of bizarre items on display, among them D'Annunzio's death mask.

Among other fascinating sights are the dolomites, found out of the town and frequented by many visitors. There are also diverse guided trips and excursion that take visitors to the mountain to the most beautiful viewing locations atop peaks.

The smallest visitors to Lake Garda will be offered the chance to choose from a wide selection of children's activities including the theme park Gardaland offering an array of games and watersports for kids, and Ganevaworld which is a must-see for the whole family with a variety of activities on offer. You'll enjoy an aqua paradise park with numerous water slides, two magic restaurants and a movie studios park.
