Nestled alongside a beautiful harbor on the west coast is Bonaire's capital Kralendijk - the commercial capital of the island and the first stop for each tourist visiting Bonaire. Marked by several narrow streets and a few low buildings painted in pastel colors, the town is home to the majority of government buildings, hotels, shops, restaurants and bars, as well as a couple of historical building and a cultural museum that will take less than an hour to explore.
In order to protect the Island from other nations, the Dutch has constructed a fortress, known as Fort Orange. Nearby visitors are offered the view of another historic building - Bestuurskantoor, with a yellow and white gate surrounding it. The main street of Kralendijk, Kaya Grandi houses supermarkets and some exclusive souvenir shops.
Walking along it, you'll see dozens of anchored sailboats and Harbor Village Marina located north of Kralendijk. Some twenty minutes walking from the town along the coast, you'll enjoy a spectacular view from Kaya Playa Lechi, set close to Harbor Village Marina. Here visitors are offered beaches in three colors: white, pink or black, and crystal clear waters, protected in the National Marine Park.
