The 100th anniversary of Korea University is marked by its attempts to achieve the world recognition as a leading educational and research institution of Korea, whose objective can be defined in the light of constant improvement, innovations and academic research. The campus of the university is so multicultural today, as it has never been before due to the great number of prominent scholars and students from all over the world. Korea University is proud of its Business School Building, regarded as the most advanced in the world, as well as its ultramodern educational facilities.
In order to meet the challenges of the XXI century Korea University introduced new educational programs, which emphasize multiple majors. It also has strategic partnerships with public and private centers, which encourage innovative research. Numerous international projects of the university bring its students together with students of leading universities around the world. In 2003 the international exchange programs were expanded to include Remmin University in China, Waseda University in Japan, Royal Holloway in the UK, UC Davis in the USA and Griffith University in Australia.
Founded in 1905, Korea University acquired the university status as well as its present name in 1946. From the time the first colleges were established, the university has expanded to include the Colleges of Law, Business Administration, Liberal Arts, Life and Environmental Sciences, Political Science and Economics, Science, Engineering, Medicine, Nursing, Education, Life Sciences, Art and Design, Humanities, Science and Technology, Economics and Commerce, Information and Communication, Journalism and Mass Communication and International Studies.
Many of them rank highest in the nation, like the College of Law, established in 1915. It offers about 50 courses, including those required for Bachelor of Law degree. The department also offers L.L.M. and Ph.D programs. The studies cover both public and private law. The College of Liberal Arts maintains relationship with Moscow University and Petersburg University (Russia), Columbia University (the USA), Waseda University (Japan) and Beijing University (China).
The graduates of the college achieved remarkable success in a number of fields ranging from dramatic journalism to arts. The College of Science offers courses in Mathematics, Chemistry, Physics, Earth and Environmental Science. The faculty of the College of Medicine comprises 250 professors, doctors and nurses. There is a strong Medical Center and nine affiliate research centers.
The College of Education, established in 1972, is divided into several departments including Home Economics Education, Korean Language Education, Geography Education, Computer Science Education and others. The newest is the College of International Studies, established in 2002 to cultivate individuals ready for the challenges of globalization. The majority of colleges are located on the main campus of the university Anam-dong, constructed in 1934.
With its progressive vision and constant improvement Korea University is considered to be a leading university of Seoul and one of the most prominent universities in the nation.
